Ok after lost and lots of experimentation, my drive writes at 4x. (it only used to burn at 2x on a variety of media)

I downloaded the latedst ASPI drivers from
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?sess=no&language=English+US&cat=/Product/ASPI-4.70&filekey=aspi_471a2.exe

After a restart, all attempts at burning so far have been done in about 14/15mins for full discs.

This is with the sony drive set up as the master on the secondary IDE (no other drives on the controller)

Please let me know if this helps, or if its just some random thing i have done on my system that has fixed my problems
