Burning avi from external drive error

Does anyone else have a problem burning avi files from an external hard drive using Nero? My DVD player reads avi so I have always made data disks and there hasn't been a problem until I began using an external drive to store my files. Might the transfer rate from the external drive be a problem? First post so apologies if already covered, I did search ;)

What is the error that you get when attempting to burn with Nero? Post the error log. Are you connecting the drive through a USB 2?
