I am useing nero to convert some avi files to dvd. But I am having a problem with the subtitles. When it burns and I play it back through my dvd player the quality is great except my subtitles are to far at the bottom of the screen to be able to read them they are chopped off. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Were these subs hard coded onto the AVI video before it was converted to DVD?

Yes they are part of the video itself.

When I play the disc back on my computer the I can read the subtitles fine. But when I play them back through my xbox360 the subtitles are still at the bottom of the screen.

You can try putting the AVI file in a letterbox.
This puts the letterbox frame at the bottom of the screen and the subtitles further up.
Choose a size for the letterbox that has the same aspect ratio as the source.
Load/drag the AVI into VirtualDub.
Click 'File' > 'File Information' to get frame size and compression used.
Click 'Video' > 'Full processing mode' > 'Filters'
Select 'Smart Resize 1.1' and double click.
Plug in present frame size and new letterbox size.
Then choose 'Video' 'Compression' and select the same codec that was used (DivX/XviD)
click 'File' > 'Save as..'

Put the filter [resize.vdf] inside the VirtualDub 'Plugins' folder

Ok I've tried it on standard tvs and the subtitiles arent being cut off. It seems that it is my Hdtv that is enhancing the playback from the xbox360. I even unhooked the hd cables and went with the basic and that also worked. it would be nice not having to keep switching though
