NeroVision 5 clips too much from hard-subbed .avi files?

First time posting, although certainly not my first visit. I currently have a series I wish to burn to a DVD and I've successfully done so, bar one more than slightly irritating thing.. This particular series has subtitles built into it, and Nero is militant about cutting off the bottom of these subtitles.

I'm aware of the 'safe-zones', but these files are a resolution of 640x480 and are burning at an aspect ratio of 4:3, meaning it has to stretch to fit the television. Why does it insist on making it stretch more than it has to? Is there any way at all I can prevent it from doing this, or at least reduce the cut? One centimetre down would be perfect.

I'd greatly appreciate your help.

Appears to work but he certainly wasn't kidding; it's rather time consuming.
You'd think Nero would have a setting of its own for something like this.. Thanks though.

Oh no, that's fine. It's actually only a six-episode series, so I may well just leave it overnight. Yes, I did try both and the subtitles were slightly more bearable but I lost a fair bit of background image as a result. Thanks again for the reference, and also to the original poster.
