I have a Gateway 840GM, can anybody tell me what kind of mobo would fit in it?

That case will only take Micro ATX motherboards:

A G33 is your best bet. You also need to make sure that the case's power button cables can connect to the motherboard since it is a Gateway designed case. It would be a shame if you couldn't use you new equipment if you can't even power it up.
