I bought a new LITE-ON external DVD burner which came with Nero 7 Essentials. I used WMM to meke some clips from family photographs. I burnt some VCDs using these clips on this burner. They worked fine on my computer and Sony DVD player. I used the same clips to burn DVDs and they do not play on my DVD player.I get a message saying:
'Disk is dirty'. I used new Maxell DVDs. I wanted to use Verbatim but that was NOT the media recommended by LITEON. Also, I did clean the disks after I kept getting this message. I used a three disks and then I gave up.
I e-mailed Nero for any solutions more than a week ago and I have not heard from them. If any one of you could help me , I would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

Wrong forum sabasarda - the Nero forum would probably be better then Wii forum :) Moved
Verbatim burns well w/ LiteOn - I have a few LiteOn's and they do well w/ Verbatim.
Check LiteOn's site and see if there is a firmware update for the drive may help w/ the Maxell's.
I would use Verbatim over Maxell - Maxell uses different manufacturers and they may not be compatible w/ your player.
Try taking the burn speed down a notch too.

What is the media code of your Maxell discs?

I retured the Maxell disks already and bought Verbatim DVD+R. I will
try to burn these in a day or two and see what happens.
Thank you very much.

Booktype those DVD+Rs to DVD-ROM for greater compatibility with your players.

My Sony DVD player does NOT support DVD-ROMs. I tried burning a small clip of the movie to Verbatim+R. It did not work. Error message said..' Disk is not writable'. I tried three different disks. Same message. I even tried @ 8x speed. By the way, these disks are made in Taiwan. Would that make any difference. I had read some where that the Verbatim disks made in Singapore are the best.
Any suggessions?

Quote: My Sony DVD player does NOT support DVD-ROMs
:~) I'm sure you meant "It does not support DVD-RAM" . The original DVDs are DVD-ROM. Booktyping the DVD+R to DVD-ROM will make them compatible to virtually any of the players out there.
What Lite-On burner do you have? Is your firmware up to date?

I am a person with very limited knowledge of computers and related matter. This what the Sony DVD player booklet says....This system
cannot play CD-R, CD-ROMs including photoCDs, data sections in CD-EXTRAs, DVD-ROMs.
Infact I did try to burn one of the Maxell DVDs as DVD-ROMs. That ofcourse did not work.
I went to the LIteON web site to update Firmware as you suggessted.
My Model # DX-20A3H-05LS was NOT listed.I sent an e-mail to LiteOn about it. Hopefully I will hear from them soon.
Thank you for working to solve my problem.

How old is the dvd player sabasarda? I'm guessing it might be on the old side since it doesn't support cd-r's.
That might just be the problem.
I would try playing these on another dvd player.

Okay, I am not talking about burning the DVD as a data DVD-ROM, or a boot DVD-ROM. You burn like you normally burn your DVD Video, choose DVD-Video, just "booktype" it to DVD-ROM. That is something that your recorder does with the DVD+R. I think the Lite-on drives are capable of booktyping.

Yep LiteOn's booktype. And with Nero it should be doing it automatically when using a +R disc - unless you change the default setting of automatic.

Thanks binkie! It makes sense, Lite-On hangs out with the boys and girls from the DVD Alliance, like Sony, it should booktype the DVD+R to make it more compatible.
I am still debating about getting a Lite-On as my next drive.

I'd get a LiteOn - I have 3 :)
Heck one is about 4 years old and still ticking.

DVD player is atleast 6 years old. But the fact is that I played
photo CD-Rs on it when I had Nero Express 4 and no DVD writer. I would try to play these on a different player.
But now My problem is why is the DVD burner not burning Verbatim DVD+Rs at all? It did burn the Maxells....only I could not watch those on my DVD player.
Thanks.

I think the old dvd play is probably the biggest culprit. Older ones can have a tougher time trying to the newer media.
For the Verbatims not burning - post the last failed Nero log.
Here's where to find them and how to post them - link

I again tried burning Verbatim disks about 15mts. ago ( Around 1PM EST)and I looked for the log. It did not have one for that time period. The last one was created for the last Maxell disk I made. None for the Verbatims.
Well, before I do any thing else I am going to play Those three Maxell disks I made on a differnet player.
I sure do appreciate every ones help.

Every one, I took your advice and played the Maxell DVDs that I burnt earlier, they worked fine on the Sylvania DVD player we have.
I did learn a few things in the process of getting this problem worked out. I am sure I will be back.
Tahnks.

@binkie
Thanks! It was like yesterday, I was posting my failed nero burn log, with my CMC.Mag discs!
@sabasarda
Are your DVD+R discs booktyped to DVD-ROM? The cheaper players seem to have no problem playing about anything you throw at them, short of a piece of toast. I have a player that will not play any DVD+/- R, it will only play DVD+R booktyped to DVD-ROM.
I know that Nero Burning Rom booktypes automatically to DVD-ROM. You have the essentials package though, and I don't know if Nero Express does it automatically or not.

My Dvdplayer is not cheap but it sure is old. I tried only DVD-R
booktyped to DVD-rom. Nero does it automatically also. I will surely try DVD+Rs and see what happens.
But right now I am exited that my other player can play the DVD-R.
Thanks.
