First of all, I am using Windows XP Home Version with Service Pack 2. I have DVD Shrink 3.2. And, I am using Nero 6.3.1.12. (I think that is the version) My burner is a NEC ND-3540A. I have been trying to rip some movies and I keep getting an error message while using DVD Shrink. Everything starts copying fine, but before it gets to the actuall burning process, I get the following error message:

Also, after closing the error box, it says the following:

Backup Complete

Burning did not complete successfully!

However, all output files were successfully encoded, and they are ready for burning with appropriate DVD burning software.

So, what am I doing wrong. Everything worked before. Can anyone please help me? Thanks!

one thing that i see is you need more ram aka memory, one thing that will help turn of programs or apps that are running that you don't need, don't do any multitasking, surfing, playing games stuff like that, also did you have any problems before this? also don't burn to fast, also it would be a good idea to get anydvd this program removes copy protection and you can rip with this program, good luck.

Looks like your burner needs the firmware updated. If you use ImgBurn, select Tools>Drive>Check for firmware update.

Like mercer said, you've got a lot going on here. Disable background programs, don't surf, listen to internet radio, etc.

Try unticking this before you start the process and see if that helps.

Updating your firmware may rid you of this pesky SCSI error.

Good luck.

LOL! I see you got that answer set on "Automatic"! That thread with all the backup methods would not help squat, he/she doesn't have problems with encryption/transcoding(or might, but is not causing this particular error in the posted log). Same way, getting AnyDVD or other decrypter would not help.

Wrong forum you could say, better fit in Nero forum...

@ThreeD23

Remove your serial number.

Like 7thSinger mentioned, should update the firmware to version 1.04 :

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2109

The RAM memory is very low indeed, 200 some MB is enough for your OS to run. Put in at least another 250MB .

You also have an old version of nero .Update, here is the latest Version 6:

http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe
Package 2:
http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

You have Roxio drivers installed, it clashes with Nero, to remove, run this zapper

The discs you are using are not the best. A firmware update might help, if not , get some good quality discs, Verbarim or Sony. If shopping online, go for the Taiyo Yuden.

just a note, DVD shrink dosent do DVD9s so well, I would suggest img burn it builds movie DVDs a bit better.

You have the burner set-up as a slave. Should switch them around, put the Nec burner as master and the Lite-On DVD-ROM as slave.

just saying I have noticed some oddities with nero, ramm issues and the other nero burning issues have been mentioned, the only other thing I can mention is bad cable or a poor jumper setting if you have a slave drive drop it and try to burn a disc at a different speed either 4X or 8X but the cable/slave/jumper could be causing interference.

OK, something is major wrong! I just downloaded ImgBurn and tried it and got the following error:

I also tried opening Nero StartSmart, selecting 'Burn DVD-Video Files' and when I select the video files, it doesn't even give me the option to 'Burn'! 'Burn' is grayed out! Does ANYONE know what is going on? Thanks for all the help.

OK, guys. I have found something interesting: I just tried burning an Audio CD with Nero and it worked perfectly! So, why can't I burn DVD's? By the way, the DVD's are Office Depot brand, but I used DVD Identifier and it says they are Ritek. So, could it be something with the DVD-R's? Thanks guys for all the help!

What do you mean "I tried installing the NEC firmware, but it won't let me"? What version did you try to install, 1.04? Did you get an error or something?

Yea, I tried installing 1.04, but it gave me an error. I just tried burning to a Verbatim DVD-R and it worked perfectly! So, it must have been the DVD-R's from Office Depot. They show up as Ritek. I thought Ritek were good brand, unless they are just a bad batch. Thanks!

Ritek are so-so when it comes to quality/comatibility. It works better in some burners, some don't like them.
Even with quality media, different burners like different flavour discs, some are compatible with a certain dye, others are not. Taiyo Yuden, or Verbatim for example, even though are the best discs out there, you might find a burner that just does not like them. However, going with the high quality discs, you have the best chance of getting good burns.

Personally i just stay away from iffy media. All i use is TY's or Verbatims. I've found the quality to be extremely reliable for whatever i'm using the media for.
