I'm unable to copy Bruce Almighty....

- i can get it from the original DVD to my harddisk by using DVD Decryptor and setting DVD Decriptor to ignore read errors.... that works.... as far as i can see i can then play it from my HD using PowerDVD.

- sofar so good.... now trying to burn a copy from the source on HD by using CloneDVD gives an almost immediate error stating...

ERROR New Line NavigationPack 0 VOBU 4 1889275 198 TCE

does anyone have a clue what i'm doing wrong and how to overcome....

any help is appreciated !

thanks......Mario

Size and form are likely the issues causing your problem. It needs to be compressed and authored, so to speak. You can't just take files off with DVD Decrypter and burn em. In addition, Bruce is a rather lengthy flick, so it's probably too big to fit onto a dvdr. If you ripped the entire disc with decrypter, run the files thru DVD Shrink. The output files shouldn't be rejected by CloneDVD.

When I did Bruce, I used DVD Shrink to rip and compress the entire disc, then burnt it using Nero 6. It worked perfectly.

There is no problem so big, that a brick placed against the proper skull cannot fix =)

I just did Bruce Almighty with DVD Shrink and it came out great first time. I also made a SVCD of Bruce that
took 8 hrs too make. I know what you mean I have one DVD that just won't copy (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back)DVD is clean, has no visible marks, even looked with a mag glass, plays entire movie in dvd players no problem, go to burn it, forget it. I'm no expert yet but I have backed up 20 movies this one just won't copy. I don't no why but somebody out there has to have the answer.

tusken, it's a pretty well known fact that DVD Shrink refuses to rip some DVD's. That's why, if yer a DVD Shrink fan, it's best to also have DVD Decrypter handy to rip with in those instances. Be sure to rip in FILE mode tho, else shrink will tell u it can't find the IFO file when u try to compress.

Try downloading dvd xcopy express...
You can get the trial here

http://www.dvdxcopy.co.uk/

It decrypts, shrinks and copies in about 45 mins

321 Studios DVDxCopy is rubbish IMHO.

Bruce Almighty was done using DVD Shrink + Nero 6 Ultra this end.

(there is a new version of DVD Decrypter out now - 3.1.8.0)

Like most people on this board I backed up Bruce almighty by using DVD Shrink and Nero 6 to burn; no problem. You can use DVD Shrink too if you like, but you'll have to deal with the annoying disclaimer in the beginning.

Hello all

I'd like to post a disctinction here, and that's to query whether the problem was in rip or burn. I've worked my way through my burn issues, trying burnatonce on the ones Nero and pinnacle have rejected, but now I've run into my first flick that just wont *rip*.

I've tried:
DVD Decrypter .......... errors out 9/10 way through first big vob

DVD Shrink .......... (no compression and with compression) errors out at around the same place

Smart Ripper ........... errors out about 1/2 way through first big .vob

So.... ideas on getting around issues with ripping? This is the first one out of about 20 successful rips so far. What should I do?

I backed-up both of the above mentioned movies with no problem with 1.DVD Decrypter 2.DVD2One 3.Nero ,the only minor hiccup i've encountered (twice)not on either of these flicks was a movie wouldn't rip in one of my machines, but lucky for me I have two PC's with matching Roms and writers and programs, so I just swapped the problem dvd disc out to the other PC and it ripped without a problem. I don't why this happens but ,it must have something to do with slight differences in the Roms laser. Back to the topic: it does sound like mrobers was skipping a process(compression) DVD2One has been great for me. Good luck!

Hi guys, For the few movies I have run into that DVDShrink can't decrypt, I run Anydvd behind it. Shrink then sees the movie as no encryption. The burn back is with Nero 6 Ultra. My 1st choice is CloneDVD with Anydvd. I use Shrink If CloneDVD compresses too much.

Hey guys

Guess I've kind of co-opted this thread for my own ripping issues, but I guess that's ok. I've just encountered my 2nd DVD that I can't seem to rip.

Unsuccessful (these are with ANYDVD running in background.. I havent purchased yet, just thought I'd try it):
DVD Decrypter in file mode to hard drive
DVD Shrink to hard drive in full mode, no compression
Smart Ripper

All rips fail somewhere in the first large (over 1 GB) .VOB file. This is duplicated both in this DVD (Robin Williams live on broadway & Once Upon a time in the west).

I've also tried a DOS-level xcopy with ignore errors turned on and found the same issue--it tanks while trying to read the first large .VOB. (Of course, this doesn't provide a %-age or anything, just locks after awhile).

Beyond getting another complete system (as the above post hints at... not that much $ yet, eh?) for wildcards such as these, any ideas? Anyone else have some DVD's that refuse to rip and managed to beat them?

sanlaan, I'm not sure if I am reading your post right. Are you trying to use Decrypter and Shrink at the same time? If so, don't. They usually cause problems with each other. If I'm wrong just ignore this. When I run Anydvd behind DVDShrink, it takes a little longer than usual, but works great when Shrink has problems decrypting.
If your system isn't very new, you should be able to still do a backup, only it will take a lot longer than average.

To answer Herbsman, I've stopped trying to do full disk or movie only at this point, herbsman, because this issue is *file specific*, ie there are two files on each DVD that refuse to rip. I've gone past those two files and ripped all other .vob's beyond those and then come back and tried ripping either one and they eventually tank on both programs. The one file reached 300 errors and, like 750MB out of it's 1GB file size before stopping and the other reaches around 500MB of it's 800MB file size. I don't really care about the second VOB, as it's trailer shi-ite, but the first one is the first .VOB of the set of 4 comprising the flick, so I don't want to lose it.

So, now when I'm trying to rip either of these, I go back to decrypter or SmartRipper and only select that one .VOB and then walk away for awhile only to come back, see a ton of errors, and the error msg that it's given up.

This is with ANYDVD running.

What are supposed to be the advantages of AnyDVD running in background , only asking cos I have never used (and to be honest had no need so I haven't read anything on it either).

A typical VIDEO_TS folder of a DVD is similar to :

VIDEO_TS BUP 16,384
VIDEO_TS IFO 16,384
VIDEO_TS VOB 43,008
VTS_01_0 BUP 77,824
VTS_01_0 IFO 77,824
VTS_01_0 VOB 1,695,744
VTS_01_1 VOB 1,073,565,696\
VTS_01_2 VOB 1,048,565,696 \ <-- This is the Main movie
VTS_01_3 VOB 1,048,565,696 /
VTS_01_4 VOB 589,365,248 /
VTS_02_0 BUP 18,432
VTS_02_0 IFO 18,432
VTS_02_0 VOB 43,008
VTS_02_1 VOB 6,014,976

So you are taking these main movie VOBs and title set IFO (in this example VTS_01_0 IFO 77,824) but leaving
VTS_01_0 VOB 1,695,744 alone yeah ?

Yo Herb

I've ripped *all* files off of disk, with the exception of, to fit your example,

VTS_01_1 VOB 1,073,565,696

which errors out when trying to rip at around, say, 782,882,806 and then over the course of the next 30 minutes or however long I let it go, rips about 8 KB every 20 errors afterwards.

As for your second q, I don't really know the benefits of AnyDVD, either. I installed it to see if it helped... but the rips error in the same place in the VOB file anyways.

On a side note, I also installed the Guardian Knot pack with codec and was seriously disappointed to see that they frickin' auto-bundled GMT software with it! What kind of underhanded crap is that? If you don't know, GMT is the new disguise for that piece of crapware/adware/spyware/popupware previously known as Gator, which friendly-like offers to store passwords for you and then sends you to popup hell. Moderators should think of removing the link to that software until they remove GMT from the default set of software apps (There was not an option to install without it). Other people seem to be willing to offer freeware without packagine crapware with their packages. I don't recall getting Xupiter installed on my machine when I installed burnatonce, you know?

Hehehe , nice rant ; )

So Gator has changed it's name huh (?) Guess they'd pissed too many people off & they werent installing anymore (even if they were newbies in a sense) - lol

The reason I asked about Movie-Only rip anyway is because if ever I have a DVD that starts erroring out on me , I usually have immediate success by taking just the movie (think it is due to some complex menu structures contained within DVD more-so than excellent encryption :-)

Out of curiousity is it a NTSC version of BRUCE ALMIGHTY ?

Hi Herbsman, This might clear things up on what I do sometimes. As you know, Anydvd runs in the backgroung with CloneDVD as the decrypter and works very well that way. It will also run in the backgroung for other programs the same way as with Nero Recode. I tried ripping Bruce Almighty with just DVDhrink and it wouldn't decrypt. So I fired up Anydvd also, still using Shrink and it worked. While Anydvd was running, shrink saw the movie as though it had no encryption. I do this on the movies shrink has a problem with. Just my way around another problem.

Ahhhhh..... *light bulb*

K, will try. Yeah, I didn't think it was some grandiose level of encryption, as one of the movies is a 2 year old off the shelf of Once Upon a Time in the West.

I'll keep ya posted and thanks for the advice.

We all have that success apart from these one or two in here , so stating that you've had success with them software is just confirming what I and others have alreay said.
We are asking for help in this thread for ppl who might have an insight into why it wont rip for others as it so easily has for most of us...

Last time of asking this to anyone who has problmes with BRUCE ALMIGHTY , is this a NTSC format version ?????????????

Hi again Herbsman, I was going to state this last post and forgot. Bruce Almighty I was backing up was NTSC region 1. After Shrink and Anydvd got done with it, I just removed the foreign audio tracks and got the main movie at 70% by adjusting the ratios down on the extras. Backup came out perfect menus and all.
