Whenever I open a torrent, the rest of my internet dies, or rather, gets REALLY slow. Even if I set the upload to the minimum, it's still slow. In fact, the torrent doesn't even have to be downloading or uploading anything, and it STILL kills the 'net.

I am using BitTornado.
I have tried forwarding the ports.
I have tried setting my PC to the router's DMZ.
I have a WRT54GS v6.
The same happened with my previous router, a Motorola one.

I'm sure it has to be some setting, or SOMETHING...
Also, the same seems to happen with any other p2p program.
Tips, advice, ideas?

But, the WRT54GS is Linksys.

Bittorrent programs put a lot of stress on just about any home router.

Your Linksys is listed at the Azureus Bad Routers page with a suggestion of setting "max global connections" to under 200.
Although it is an Azureus page, the principal is the same.

I do not know where the "global connection" setting is in BitTornado, but you should try lowering it to below 200.
