I've just bought a PC on ebay that has not yet arrived and wondering if it will play Gears Of War the pc version. Specs: 512mb ATI Graphics card (not sure what model) 2 Pentium D processors @ 2.8GHz each and 1GB DDR2 RAM. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Yes it will, but how well depends on several things like what GPU it is, the OS that is loaded, if running Vista you're in trouble as 1GB of RAM is not even going to cut running the OS very well, even on XP 1GB is cutting things fine.
It will still play, but will likely be slower than it could be.

# OS: Windows XP or Windows Vista
# Processor: Intel 2.4 GHz or AMD 2.0 GHz or higher
# HDD space: 12 GB
# Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 or ATI X700 or higher

It will probably struggle with Gears of War, as it only has 1GB of RAM. The graphics card being ambiguous almost always means it's the slowest model (this is deliberate, to try and hide the fact that they use very cheap, slow models) and will therefore also give you problems. The system will also only have one processor, the Pentium D is a single processor with two cores, and a very slow one at that, by current standards. It is also unwise to upgrade this PC as it will have a crap PSU in it (almost all ebay PCs do). In general, you might get away with Gears of War, but not well. Realistically, if you want a PC for gaming, you need to buy a proper one.

Yeah it probably will play it but those GFX card specs make me nervous. You will get away with it, but it will be MUCH better playing it on a 360.

What should be mentioned here though, is that Gears of War is by no means the most demanding of recent games. I can run it at 2560x1600 at 40fps, a lot of top end games coming out now will only make 10 when you max out the settings. Rainbow Six Vegas can only make 7, Crysis 6 and DiRT 8. By that notion, even if your PC could play Gears of War, it's looking pretty shaky for other games.
If the graphics card turns out to be something like an X1900, no problems, you'll be fine, but based on the rest of the specs, I'm thinking that's unlikely.

5.6 GHz etc? seems to be the latest gimmick sales patter used on eBay, a Q6600 is advertised as being 9.6GHz ?it aint!?

What you have a dual core CPU which runs at 2.8GHz, it is in no way equivalent to running a single CPU at 5.6Ghz.

As long as you are happy with what you've got then that's all that matters.

The difference in architecture is something to consider with CPUs as well not just clock speed.

An older P4 D950 clocked to 5.7Ghz 'real speed' not combined cores ran superpi 1M in 23.44 seconds setting a record.

A Conroe at default speed 2.4Ghz runs the same test in just over 20 seconds without any tweaks.

The processor is not 5.6 ghz. If it's 5.6 ghz I'll chop my d*ck off.

I would never say that unless I was sure.

Your CPU is not 5.6Ghz, it's 2.8 as BigDK says. You have two cores, so if a program can make use of a dual core then in a way you do effectively have a CPU that's the speed of 5.6Ghz. However, under normal circumstances it's a 2.8, and a 2.8 based off the P4 architecture at that.
The X1650 can play Gears of War, just about, although as mentioned you may have issues with 1GB of RAM.
My estimate is that you should probably have paid about £250, or $400-$450 for the PC. Any more, and I think you've been conned.
Also be advised that PCs built and sold on ebay unanimously have awful Power supplies, that's something to bear in mind. If you ever upgrade the system, or even if you don't, you should consider replacing the unit before it goes up in flames. Don't think I'm joking either, it's happened, to me personally, and several others on the forum.

LOL..... Saw someone advertise a 2xCPU Xeon Quad core server before now with a CPU speed of 24Ghz!! I asked him how and he replied...

"Duh!! 2x CPU's with 4x cores @ 3.0Ghz each..... You do the maths dumb ass"

Ha ha.... I nearly died laughing... Retard

Ok I must have misunderstood about the processors although 2.8GHz is more than good enough for me thanks sammoris for actually giving some detail instead of taking the p**s. The pc I have bought has full guarantee so if it foes set on fire I'll get it replaced. I can play the one main game I wanted which is Counter strike: source.

No body is taking a Piss. BTW when Sam says your PC might go up in flames he LITERALLY means FIRE.

No point in getting a PC that might go up in flames. So what if it has a guarantee, it's still an inconvenience. If you can, cancel the PC and buy parts and build yourself a PC. If you can't do that, remember to change out the PSU before upgrading the Graphics card.

Good luck.

Pretty much anything can play CounterStrike Source, that's one of the things I love about the game. As for the PSU though, ye be warned.
Abuzar: Come on man, you said you'd chop your manhood off if he was right, you didn't exactly explain yourself! I think his taking the piss comment is valid... :P

I was right though wasn't I? I wasn't being condescending, I just said if he was right I would chop it off. He wasn't, thank god. ;)
