For some reason, I thought my new (used) notebook could be reformatted like my computer. I did the whole Fdisk thing to erase wipe off the old OS and now I just have a black screen after the splash page. I tried using a bootup disk (floppy) but it's apparently a non systems disk. I don't have a bootup cd, only the OS.

Can anyone help? I tried doing all of the stuff I would normally do on my desktop, but to no avail.

Thanks in advance.

what is the make & model# of the laptop? what windows is on your desktop? have you gone into the bios to see what the boot sequence is? if your desktop pc has a floppy drive then attempt to boot off the floppy disk to see what happens. it won't mess up your computer.

It's a Compaq Armada 1750. There is currently no OS on it, since I Fdisked and wiped it (slaps forehead). I tried booting off a floppy, but it said, "non system disk." I have also tried going into the BIOS, but I can't figure out how to do it.

Oh...I can't get into the DOS prompt. That's the issue. Is it possible that when I fdisked I deleted the DOS?

I managed to get it to the C prompt...but I when I try to go to D: to run the setup disk it says, "invalid drive specification." Same with the A drive. ARGH!

I think it's just the Armada 1750 Notebook PC. I had tried looking at that link, but I don't know what to download.

I thought about putting what I did to fix it for future use...but in all honesty I don't know WHAT I did. I just kept rebooting and suddenly I had a C prompt. From there I could go to the D prompt and type "setup."

The only thing I did was early on, so I don't know if this had anything to do with it "fixing itself." I held down the function button (Fn) then turned the machine on. I kept tapping the F11 until something came up that gave me a choice to save the settings or not, and I saved. Apparently this resets the BIOS to factory settings.

Sorry that I don't have a definitive answer...I think the only thing learned here was not to give up hope. ;)
