I have the LG "HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H55N" burner, it has been working fine with NERO7 for ages. I installed a new master hard drive at the weekend and now the little bugger will only burn DVDs and not CDRs. I did have this problem for about a month before my new drives and was unable to fix it then too. It's odd, it will burn the DVD just fine, but not CDRs. I;ve tired 3 different brands of media too, same batch which worked before hand. My computer is fast enough so there is no worries there. Is there a known problem or fix for this? Thanks for your help.

ok will download the firmware this evening when i get home from work. just reading the page, is it straight forward as from the warnings it seems a little tricky.
nope it should not have been a multi and it should be finalised. that was set in the settings before i told it to burn.
DMA, ok thanks, will do that when i get home this evening. (a bit stupid, but where do i change it? thanks)
thanks for your help

Hmmmm not sure how to enable DNA mode. i went to device manager and uninstalled the DVD/CD disk drive and restarted pc. I just tried to do another CD with no joy, here is the new error log. It still says DMA is off! I will do the Firmware update tomorrow morning as i have to move cables etc.

Hello Simon,
Rotary suggested uninstalling the IDE Controllers, and from what you said you uninstalled the drive itself. You want to look in Device Manager for IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
Here's an excellent thread for DMA problems (thank you to ZoSoIV for the link) It has all the instructions for deleting the drivers.

Apart from your DMA being off, the CDs you are using are NOT good quality so I would recommend buying new ones, Verbatim or Sony (made in Japan)...your DVD's are top quality.
In your first 2 logs you will notice that the burns on the Yudens were successful whereas the
Quote: CDR code: 00 97 17 06; OSJ entry from: Moser Baer India Limited
FAILED
Turn your DMA on(link provided) and change your discs.

Ok, I've updated the firmware to 1.05. I've uninstalled the all the IDE drives and made sure the DMA is enabled like the excellent step by step guide said. Everything is done, BUT its still FUBAR'd. Think its time to admit defeat and go buy a new drive. This one is only a year old too I think. Thanks for all your help. PS, which drive do you recomend!

Rotary has some excellent suggestions. I second him on checking your BIOS; I just installed a new DVD burner and ROM and although everything looked good in device manager, my slave was set to "off". Couldn't burn anything; although odd you can burn DVDs.
As for burners, I'm very happy with my Lite-On (not SATA though). Here's one place you can check for reviews:

i could try a nero re-install, but dont think its going to make much of a change as i only installed it last weekend on the new HD, before this it wsa still playing up, so its had one fresh install already and i even updated it to see if it makes any difference. will check the bios thingy later at the weekend when home. thanks again
