Help with burn DVD's DP170MS8

I have just purchase a new Magnavox DP170MS8. The kids have somehow manage to destroy two $20 dvd players over the year. This model was only $50 and it will do up to 1080P which I hooked up to my new 50" LCd tv. However the dvd player along with the Sony PS3 will not play any movies. I have even tried different types of media same results in both players. The movie do work in teh PC and in other dvd players in the house. I have used TDK +r, Memorex +r, Staples +r, and even tried some DVD -r. Same results, so I think it may have to do with how th emovies are burned. can someone help me i'm sure this has happened to someone else.
