Not sure if this is the right forum for this, so please bear with me.
I have a TV series on my PC that I would like to burn to DvD. I need the DvD to be playable on a non-PC DvD player (my living room DvD/tv). I am having a TON of problems that I know nothing about.
First off, every time I try to access the folder with the movie files, I get a Data Execution Prevention error and it closes the folder. I am using XP Pro. Service Pack 2. When I can get the folder open, if I try to select the properties of a file, I get the error again.
Secondly, I am trying to figure out the file extension for further info for possible help on this forum. I believe it is MPEG-4. However, when I tried to open the folder in DvDShrink, I got the following error: Failed to open file "E:\Battlestar Galactica\VIDEO_TS.IFO" The system cannot find the file specified.
So, before I can even get to the burning help, I need to figure out what is going on with these issues. If these can be sorted out, I would need some help with transferring them to a DvD that I can watch on my home theater.
This link talks about turning off DEP for Windows Explorer, but since you seem to be having a problem with a specific folder it may not apply.
Your problem may lie with the files in the folder or more probably (since they are video files) a codec.
Can you relate the problem to a recent download or even consider selecting a Restore Point to a time when the problem did not exist?
I tried the DEP disable but it did not work. No worries though. I was able to get the folder to show the contents in Nero 8 (trial version). It turns out that these are .avi files. Nero told me that it couldn't use .avi files. I forget the exact error message.
I still cannot see any files in the opened folder when I try to use DvDShrink.
So, what file format do I need to burn these to DvD to make them playable on my home theater rather than my PC? How do I get them converted to said file format? It would appear that they are already compressed. I am not sure about that though.
I don't have Nero 8 - but 'Nero Vision' in Nero 7 can certainly convert AVI to DVD format.
An alternative would be 'DVD Flick', a free program that can optionally burn the DVD.
Just ensure that the 'Project Settings' reflect your requirements as to video type (NTSC for North America, PAL for most of the rest of the world).

I downloaded the DVD Flick program and I was able to convert the .avi files over and pull them up in Nero with no difficulties.

Does everything appear normal? I have no way of knowing, as this is my first foray into this.
A new issue has arisen now. When I open one of the new files with Nero to actually view it (the Nero movie player) the quality is fantastic, but the soundtrack is about 5+ seconds behind the video. Is this normal? Do I need to do the DVD Flick converting over again?

It isn't normal, but happens sometimes.
Before burning the output, try playing the folder contents back with another media player, like 'VLC' or 'Media Player Classic'
Try the same conversion again with ConvertXtoDVd and see if the result is the same.
Try converting one file at a time to DVD format and see if it's one file causing a problem.
