A very strange problem which I've had for a long time:
When I do even a full 1:1 rip of a DVD to my hard drive using any application (DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, DVDFab, etc.) the ripped version shows slightly faded colour compared to the original, especially with reds.
The ripping using the above apps should not be doing any transcoding so I don't understand why there would be a difference in colour. Any thoughts on the reason for this and has anyone experienced the same thing?
Here are two screen caps through WinDVD of roughly the same frame -- one pic is from the original and the other is from a DVD Decrypter rip. The difference is subtle in these pics (the skin tones are different) but it can sometimes result in very washed-out scenes...

This happens before I burn to DVD, when I just rip to the hard drive. And there is NO compression -- it happens even on full 100% rips where no transcoding should be done, which is why this is very odd.

I did a bit more experimenting and found out the following:
If I load a single VOB file from the ripped version into WinDVD and compare it to the VOB of the original there is no difference.
If I start the entire ripped version of the DVD in WinDVD (i.e., run VIDEO_TS.IFO) and compare it to the original DVD then I see the slightly faded colours.

I don't think it's a problem with WinDVD's display because when I burn a full rip to DVD-R and play it on my standalone DVD player it will still show the same problem.
