I am currentluy using usenetserver and I am looking to switch to a new provider.
I would still like to stay at the same price $40 for 3 months unlimited dls.

I am under the impression all usenet providers have pritty much the same files is this correct?

I am thinking about going with astraweb because of the 120+ day bianary retention.
what do you guys think.

It's very good, excellent support but if running Peer Guardian, they used to conflict and Astraweb wouldn't open; may be fixed. A bit more than you want but have a look at Powerusenet (also excellent). Used it for months with no problems. I don't think the retention rate difference or number of connections makes any difference.

thanks, i think im ganna go with astraweb because i think the retention will be better. do u know if the 120+ day retention aplies to bianary files?

i have done a little more research on astrawed and it seems like some people were having problems with the download speeds. The only references of the problem I could find were a couple years old.
How long ago did you use it and did you have any problems?

I went to sign up for a three month subscription so that's why I am being very careful and asking a bunch of questions.

It must have been about a year ago I tried it (I didn't keep it long) and the only issue I had with it were with PG which their support (very prompt) confirmed as a known problem. There did seem to be quite a few posts regarding speed a while back but there also aren't going to be many posts unless people have problems. I'm sure someone here has more recent experience with it.
