In NeroMix does crossfade tempo ever work? How?

I'm simply trying to mix some tracks using crossfading in Nero 8 using Nero Mix. Just crossfade one track into the next gracefully with the tempos changing to match. the manual claims it will work but the result of following their steps is ridiculous. The tempo slows and speeds wildly when the tempo in BPM are very close to start with. Can Nero even detect the accurate Tempo? I feel jipped.
