Mobo Backplate and PSU Wiring Questions

Hi Everyone,

At the moment i'm building a new rig and I wanna do a nice job on the cable management...I have two questions:

1.) I want to hide the 8 pin power connector for the cpu behind the motherboard. When I do this, the sleeved cable touches the backplate of the motherboard. Is this harmless or is there the possibility of the motherboard backplate heating up, melting my sleeved cable and eventually to short circuit?


2.) I'm building a sli setup with two (duh!) 8800 GT's. My power supply, a Silverstone Strider 850 Watt, comes with a two stage 6 pin power connector. Is it ok to use just one cable for both graphics cards, or do I have to use a cable for each grapchics card?

1. there shouldn't be any problems if the cables touch the backplate. it won't get hot enough to melt the sleeving.

2. you have to connect a 6pin to each graphics card, or else only one will work.

Thanks for the quick reply!

My 6-pin powerconnector consists of one cable with two connectors, so I can power both cards with just one cable I guess.... ... I dunno if my systems becomes instable if I use just one....

I've run power cables over graphics heatsinks before, they get warm, but it takes some serious heat to damage a PC power cable, they're quite thick. There should be no harm in running cables behind the motherboard (if they fit there!)
As for your GPUs, if it's a modular connector and not an adapter, then using both will be fine. I do not recommend, however, powering two graphics cards off an adapter from a normal Molex connector.
