Can anyone please tell me if there is a software out there that can rip chapters from a DVD and save then as separate files with their respective names assigned to them?
Imagine wanting to make a compilation of selected tracks from several DVDs; its easier to rip chapters as individual files and then select those that will form your compilation DVD.
The old - but still available - DVD Decrypter (not the new DVD Fab Decrypter) can rip by chapter.
Disk is inserted (hopefully not encrypted) and 'Mode' 'IFO' selected.
Right click on the window and select 'File splitting 'By Chapter'.
A folder will be created with a VOB file for each chapter.

A standard DVD folder assigns the files standard names and includes .IFO and .BUP files - that is why most programs cannot read a non standard format.
The only way I know to select individual chapters from multiple DVD's is to rip the DVD's to folders, then use DVD Shrink in 'Re-author' mode to browse to a folder (using the the browse to tab on the right side of the window) selecting 'Title 1' and drag it from right to left side of the window, then select the particular chapter required.
Repeat as required for other folders then 'Backup' to save the compilation.
May someone please tell me how to play a movie directly from the hard drive after it has been ripped from a DVD using DVDFab? All I can play are individual VOB files. Is there a way you can play the whole movie, with menus, subtitles continuously from the C drive?
When ripping a DVD under the main-movie mode of DVDFab, how does one get to retain the subtitles?
I use VLC.
If you have ripped the entire disk:
Click 'File' > 'Open Directory' and highlight the folder containing the movie. The menu appears and the mouse replaces the remote.
If you choose to rip the main movie (and selected subtitles and audio), you open the directory, but since there is no menu, you select audio and subs from the VLC menu.
You can see here, when you elect the main movie only, how you can select audio and subs.
Now I have other questions that might not relate to DVD Shrink.
Can someone please help. How does one even the sound level of a compilation DVD and CD? When compiling a DVD or CD from different sounces, chances are that the different video or sound clips will have different sound levels. When the sound levels are not leveled, you havge a compilation DVD or CD playing certain clips at high volume and others at low volume. How does one get around this problem?
Another question I have is how does one rip sound only from a DVD and save it as a different music file?
I think the sound effect you need is 'Dynamic Range Compression'.
Perhaps 'Audacity' can do this, but I don't know enough about the subject to speak to it.
To use the audio from the DVD in Audacity requires it be converted to WAV format.
To remux the audio to the video with 'ReJig' (author mode) the wav has to be converted back to ac3.
