I've been havong problems getting my standalone DVD player to play burned discs. I thought a firmware update may be needed.

How do I know what my burner is and where to get the firmware?

Nero info tool says: Firmware version 0514

My PC is a HP and it lists my burner as TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H653L ATA Device

Any help?

Burner firmware is normally used to update the burner to new media types. Do a Google search for the TS-H653L to see if you can find the latest firmware.

How old is your stand alone DVD player? What type of media are you using? Does the DVD play in the original burner? Since you did not post a log, you might try slowing down the burning speed to see if it helps. If not, try posting a log.

Standalone is a 2001 Magnavox - media is TY and I run at 8x .. I searched but found nothing. Maybe the firmware is up to date.

It seems that the firmware is up to date(the latest that I have found anyway).

Are the DVDs that you use DVD+R or DVD-R?
If they are DVD+R, booktyping could help, but I don't think your burner supports it. In this case, I would use DVD-R.
If you are using DVD-R, switching to DVD+R and booktyping to DVD-ROM could help, but again, your burner I think it lacks the booktyping ability.
