Torrent Ratio??

ok it tells me that in order to download i need to keep my ratio up....now how would i do that? like i understand they want you to basically reload the item you download in order to assist others in downloading....how do i do that once i have it loaded??

All of the bittorrent clients I am aware of automatically switch to seeding mode after the download is complete.
Which bittorrent client are you using?
I assume you are talking of a private tracker and there often is a problem uploading as there are a lot of uploaders per downloader.
If you are able to upload something of your own through the site, that is the quickest way to get your ratio up at the site.

How many seeds/peers does the torrent show?
Check your ”Torrent at Options>Preferences>Queueing and see what your setting is under Seed while {Default values}.
Your Ratio setting should be at least 100% and the seeding time option should be set to (ignore).

thanks i made sur that the preferences were as you said. one more question if i may, when my friend first set this up, the download was REALLY fast now its REALLY slow, any idea how i can make it go faster like before?

First check to make sure your port is cleared.
Go to Options>Speed Guide and press the Test if port is forwarded properly button.
If your port is open, return to the Speed Guide screen and press the link for the speed test.
You should take the test a few times to get a reliable average.
It is your upload speed that matters for adjusting uTorrent to its optimal for speed.
Stop all internet activity, including torrents, before taking the test.
There is a pulldown menu of common upload speeds on the speed guide screen (in kilobits-kbs).
Choosing the one closest to yours will automatically adjust uTorrent's settings to what is best for your upload ability.
If you have any Qs, post back (if you have your average upload speed post that)

Take a speed test, like the one linked on the Speed Guide screen referenced in my post above(you would take the Flash 8 test as you have DSL).

id say use azureus because if you set it up right even with crapppy internet you can have speed above 500kb/s. It also seems the better your ratio the higher the speeds, because i got to 1.5 and mine kicked upto 980kb/s

Speed has nothing whatsoever to do with ratio. Some trackers packet limit which is a form of traffic shaping to get the most back out of you before you complete your downloads.. torrenz.??? are one of those type trackers. They suck, I avoid them.
Your ratio is purely the amount you have downloaded minus the amount you have uploaded, nothing more, nothing less. Cheating on your ratio will get you banned off most private trackers.
There is another common misconception being perpetuated above. It doesn't matter what torrent client you use, if your maximum line down speed is say 256Kb/s then that is the most you will get. It is set by your internet provider and there is nothing you can do about it apart from pay for a faster connection. Also I have observed that to get the best down speed it is better to set your torrent upload speed to around only 60% of your maximum line upload speed.. otherwise it chokes the ack packets and speeds will drop right off.. using the 256K example above that means setting max upload speed to 17-20k instead of 30 (line max on normal domestic type wires.. I'm using my DSL as an example)

Private sites differ in what they allow uploaded, how it should be uploaded and who can upload.
Usually it is set forth in their site Rules, but it might be in the FAQ.
