get the xp drivers for your computers motherboard. When you start installing xp, it tell you to press f6 to install extra drivers, you would install them at this point and it will recognize your hard drive after that.

The xp installation cd, doesn't have the specialized drivers needed for installation on the newest motherboards.

What motherboards would those be? I have never had a problem installing XP, without any drivers for my motherboards. The installation of the drivers, for the motherboard, comes after XP is installed.

And, if jcoolman's drive is a SATA drive, XP will see it just fine, if the motherboard has SATA connections.

Life is good!

The problem is that your XP disk does not have the SATA drivers.

I recently had the same problem on an acer aspire 5315, after slipstreaming the driver, it all went well.

What make and model is your PC?

If you dont mind burning a new XP disk and you have an intel processor, you can try this tutorial.

It may or may not work but even if it doesn't you will know what to do when you do get the correct drivers.

The drivers in this tutorial are for Intel Matrix Storage Manager, I believe this is what you need.

First download and install http://www.nliteos.com/download.html.
(Requires .NET Framework 2.0, you?ve probably already got that, but if nLite won?t run, download the .NET Framework from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...&DisplayLang=en)

Now download and extract the slipstream drivers http://files.soulpass.com/acer/slipstream_drivers.zip to a folder like C:\Drivers-temp\

Insert your WinXP install disk, cancel out of the autorun if it pops up.

Start up nLite, click next on the splash screen. Tell it where your CD is. It will ask you to tell it where to cache the files at. You can just use a folder like C:\XP-temp\ for that.

On the ?Presets? screen, click Next again. Now click on the ?Drivers? button, as well as the ?Bootable ISO? button, then click ?Next?

On the ?Drivers? screen, click ?Insert?, then ?Multiple Driver Folder?. Point nLite to the location where you extracted the slipstream drivers, such as C:\Drivers-temp\ and then click OK.

On the ?Select multiple drivers to integrate? window you?ll need to highlight the path at the top (such as C:\Drivers-temp\) by clicking on it once, then click ?OK?.

On the ?Driver Integration Options? window under ?Textmode integration options? highlight the whole list by clicking once on the top item, then shift-clicking once on the bottom item. With that list still highlighted, click ?OK? at the bottom.

Back on the ?Drivers? screen, click ?Next?. The ?Apply Changes:? dialog should pop up, asking if you really want to start the process. Click ?Yes?.

After the processing completes, you?ll need to click ?Next?, at which point you?ll be taken to the final screen.

On the ?Bootable ISO? screen, change the ?Mode? drop down menu from ?Create Image? to ?Direct Burn?. Eject your WinXP disk, and insert a blank disk into your burner. For safety?s sake, put a check mark next to ?Verify?.

Finally, click Burn.

When its finished you can try installing XP from the newly burned disk.

Hope this helps

First thing i would try is uninstalling nlite & .NET Framework 2.0 then reinstall .Net framework 2.0 then nlite.

If that doesn't work, we will have to try another way.

I gotta go out for a few hours but I'll get back to you when i get home.

Edit: Do you have a floppy drive?

Which sata controller do you have? (check in device manager)

Which version of nlite did you install? was it the BETA version?

If so uninstall it and install http://nlite.boot-land.net/nlite/old/nLite-1.4.1.installer.exe

There's plenty of articles on how to dual boot vista with vista installed first or vice versa, here's a link to get you started in putting xp after vista if you so decide, however i'm not sure if xp will install on a 64bit computer if xp is 32 bit

http://apcmag.com/5485/dualbooting_vista_and_xp

EDIT: There is another option if you have enough RAM & that's to install xp inside microsoft virtual pc software it's free & is compatible with vista, you can also run it from an external hdd & works ok ,have'nt tried on a DVD-RW yet but can't see why it would'nt,once the console is made you can easily back it up to media & use it in any other comp with MSVPC installed (after transferring from the media that is)
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/product...c/overview.mspx

EDIT 2:
Nlite won't install on vista coz it's not supported by it,it pays to read supported OS's,it's only for win 2000 & xp
