Vista system lags periodically

I wasn't exactly sure which forum to post this under, so I hope this is appropriate and my appologies if it isn't.

I just got a new Dell XPS pc with vista, and I'm using a new linksys wireless 802.11n USB adapter with it to connect to my network. I've noticed that since installing this device, my system will periodically lag (for lack of a better term), as in, any audio files i'm listening to will slow down and get choppy, and the same thing with video. The mouse will start moving choppy also. I noticed that this happenns for about 2 seconds, and there is exactly 1 minute in between occurrances. I also noticed that whenever this happens, the lights on the wireless adapter go crazy.

I used to have a similar problem to this on my old system running XP, and I was able to solve it by turning off the "use windows to configure my wireless network settings" option. I have tried to find a similar solution on Vista but have had no luck. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what could be done to fix it?
