if i have two 1gb sticks of pc2100 (266) memory and my mobo can support 4gb am i able to buy two sticks of pc3200 (400) and use all four without any error?

also if my mobo takes ddr ram will it take ddr sdram? or are they both the same. thank you

Yea your computer should accept all four sticks but u will be getting 266 speed due to compatibility. so it will be like u have four 266 speed sticks. I think sdram is different. not sure. id check google or go to www.crucial.com and do a scan for what kind of ram ur computer handles. good luck

you should be alright then. if it was vista i was gonna say that 266 would be too slow and youd be waiting forever. 2gigs of 400 is barely enough. but 266 with xp should be fine. good luck

Your mobo may support 4 gb's but it will not use more than 3 gb's.

Win xp only supports 3 gb
