just bought a new samsung spinpoint HD501LJ hard drive for my computer.
my computer only supports IDE so bought a raid card to work the SAtA drive from.
when the computer is fully booted (off old drive)i get a message to insert installation disk if there is one, there isn't and the seller said it doesnt come with one. (should it?).so iam stuck on what to do now.
my system is: XP, home edition 2002. AMD Athlon 1800+. 1.25GB RAM.
on initial booting the follwing screen appears:
ALI raid bios v1;14 (m5283)
identifying IDE drives.
master 1 none
slave 1 none
master 2 samsung HD501Lj sata 5001007mb
master 3 none.
ctr & A to enter bios setup utility.
the computer runs fine off the old drive, the following is the main bios for my computer.
IDE primary master WDC W800EB - 00DJFO
IDE " slave none
IDE secondary master none
IDE " slave DVDRW IDE 16x.
how can i get the hard drive working and recognized.sorry for the long winded question but any help would be appreciated.

Most raid cards makers have there own web sites to get the drivers from. What type or brand of card do you have? Make and Model number?

the computer when booted up displays "new hardware detected, mass storage device, insert installation disk", i don't think the problem is with the raid card but the hard drive.
went onto ALI site no drivers to download for raid card.

I have never heard of a raid card not having drivers. Go into Device Manager, and see if that raid card is recognized. It will probably be under SCSI and RAID Controllers.
If it isn't there, look for the yellow exclamation mark, and therein will be your card. It will require drivers, if it is there with the exclamation mark.
Edit: I just looked at that site. Absolutely useless. Good luck with that card. There is no support, no nothing on that site.
If you can get your money back, for that card, do so!

went into device manager, in other devices were the yellow exclemation marks for mass storage controller.
so is it a raid card problem and if so can you recommend a good brand raid card.

I am glad that you got it going, but I sure wouldn't trust a card that has a useless website, with no support.

Go up to the top here and click on guides and put in partition harddrives.

Some say it;s better to not partition.
