PC Shuts Off Randomly

I always leave my computer on seeding/downloading my torrents well for the last couple weeks whenever I start Azureus and walk away my computer will shut off. In seconds it turns off there is no screen saying windows is shutting down or anything it shuts off like you pulled the plug. I thought maybe it was Azureus so I switched back to uTorrent and still the same results. I could leave the computer on for hours but as soon as I start my torrents and walk away it shuts off. I formated the windows partition on the drive and reloaded it thinking that I may have registry errors but it still shuts off when I download.
Would this be because my hard drive is dying¿ I used to download at close to 600kb/s with no problems. When Ive been turning Azureus on now Ive limited it to 300kb/s is this maybe to much for my HD now because it is dying and can no longer keep up? Ive limited it to 65kb/s to see if it shuts off tonight.
Is it safe to rule out it being the PSU because it will stay on for hours if you leave it in dos¿

This sounds so strange to me. Could it possibly be overheating? How processor intensive are these downloads (never used torrents)? Has your computer ever shut off like this before without the torrents? Also, if you think it may be a HDD problem, look for the light when downloading these things. If it's brightly lit the entire time, it MAY be a problem, I don't know for sure. Sorry about all the questions, just trying to help. :D

No problem with the questions I appreciate you trying to help.
Its not overheating I have 4 case fans (2 exhaust and 2 intake). Also I run a program called speedfan which displays my temperatures on the taskbar. If my computer gets to hot a warnin buzzer goes off.
At 600kb/s they can get processor intensive but Im running a 3Ghz dual core so they dont seem to use any resources.
Ive limited them to 50kb/s and it still shuts off.
Ive been using torrents for a couple years now never had any problems on this computer or my old one (1.8Ghz single core) I think its safe to rule out the downloads as being my problem.
Im guessing my harddrive is on its way to harddrive heaven or else I am having problems with my power supply. I will try another hard drive tomorrow and see if that helps. If not Im swapping powers supplies. If niether of those solves it lets hope I still have warranty on the motherboard.

sometimes peoples computers will crash while tormenting and such due to issues with they're internet adapter, can you give us the model/name/version of your internet connection? wired or wireless?
although this happens while torrenting i see it as more of a windows issues.......you should reinstalling your internet adapters drives (ignore this if you connect through wire)
BOOT INTO SAFE MODE (JUST DO IT!!)
1)Start>My computer> right click >properties
2)hardware tab
3)device manager
4)"network adapters" right click uninstall on your adapter
5) restart into windows
6)upon login you will prompted to install new hardware if not go start>control panel> (make sure your in category view, left hand corner box to enable this)> "Printers and other hardware" >left hand corner "Add hardware", not "ADD PRINTER"
once done you may reboot or not

Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Etherenet NIC thats my adapter. Ive been using it since last summer without any problems till now. I have not changed the bios settings since I got the thing last summer so the wake up on lan cant be the problem. Especially because the comp shuts off in seconds no windows shutting down screen or anything it jus turns instantly off. It cant be as simple as reinstalling the network adapter. If that was the problem it wouldve been corrected when I reinstalled windows after a full format.
I installed a different harddrive lastnight and loaded windows onto it. I left it on downloading when I went to bed when I woke up this morning sure enough it was off again. This makes me think it is the power supply. I installed some led case lights a week before it started acting up. It had blue leds in the front of the case and I changed them to red. I had to install a resistor because when I first put them in they burnt out. Increase in resistance = increase in amperage. Maybe this affected the power supply or the motherboard because I think that the power from these leds is connected to the motherboard. I guess Ill have to try changing the power supply.

sry didn't realize you reinstalled windows:)~but since your wired like i said before you dont have to worry about that
i would take out those lights and see how you whether, make sure your PSU can support the current amount of power you ave set up on it, the fact that its turning on when you shut it down means that theyre could be a faulty connection, make sure that your power 2 motherboard is in nice and snug

LOL It shuts off randomly not turns on.
I dont believe its the new leds because they run off a switch. The leds have been turned off since the day this started happening. Ive checked all connections and theyre all snug.
The only other thing I did to the computer is installed a dvd burner but I dont see how this could be a problem. I did this the day I put in the lights a few days later this started happening

check to see if they're are any cracks on your motherboard....that can sometimes cause your PC to turn on and off like crazy...

Ive searched and searched with a magnifying glass and there is no cracks. I found a program called mprobe which tests motherboard voltages. I have 6 voltages that are flashing an error in the program but I dont know if its not configured or supported by my motherboard. I made it save a log file to see if there was significant voltage changes right before it shuts off. The voltages are the same when I turn it on to when it shuts off. Heres my results.
Vccp1 : 1.42V
Vccp2 : 2.48V
+3.3V : 1.81V
+5V : 5.70V
+12V : 4.86V
-5V : -0.18V
This program apparently tests more voltages but it only saves the ones that are in an error state in the log file. I have no clue what this stuff means but I am beginning to think my power supply is the problem.

I tried that program and it shows the same voltages as mbprobe. I am going to take my power supply to a computer store and get it tested. This is driving me absolutly crazy.

if PSU doesn't solve your problems try getting a new NIC... They're cheap anyway... My friends old system used to crash all the time when he was downloading/uploading, and replacing the NIC solved his problems... I don't know why your system just completely shuts off, that is kind of strange, but perhaps a new gigabit NIC will help!

The PSU may have a weak 5V rail, and the intensity of transferring data to your hard drive(s) may be enough to push it over the edge when warm. It might not be affected by the stress of loading windows because the PSU will be cold when doing so.

It shuts off when Im not downloading to. Actually Ill be just startin it up and it will shut off before windows even loads. Sometimes it shuts off 3 times before I can get windows to come on. Its so random to sometimes it will stay on for 5 mins and other times it stays on for 5 hours. I cleaned the PSU out and it hasnt shut off on me yet but I doubt it was that simple. That couldnt explain why all my voltages where flashing errors with mbprobe.

It sounds like your PSU is just on its way out. Have it replaced.

My comp has been on constant since I cleaned out the PSU. 12 hours straight now. Only thing thats weird now is the hard drive LED has been on constantly too. Hopefully thats just with this hard drive and when I switch back to my old hd it will go off.

The hdd light is symptomatic of the fault. If it has been on constantly wityh no read/write operations going on there is something up on one of the IDE channels. It's usually a hdd plugged in the wrong way or a bad jumper setting.. but it may also be the IDE controller going out...
sammorris has it right there.. keep an eye on it, but first check all your cables are tight and all the jumpers are set correctly...
I would go find what the problem is.. (because I'm like that.. prevention is better than cure), by unplugging one thing at a time and rebooting until it goes out.. then we have our culprit.

Well I was hooking my other hard drive and I noticed that the power for my dvd burner wasnt plugged in but the ide cable was. Thats probably why the hd LED was on constant. Im guessing thats why the computer wasnt shutting off because with that not plugged in it would suck less power from PSU. So I am certain that its the PSU once I plugged that cable back in it started shuttin down again. I know its not the burner because it worked fine in my brothers computer.
One thing I did notice when I pulled the PSU out to clean it it was only 350W. When I bought the thing it came with 500W which quit working shortly after I bought it. I took it in for warranty and he replaced it. Looks like the computer store screwed me. To bad that was a couple years ago now.

Ya Ive used this 350W for years now with no problem. I guess installing those new LEDs with the resistors sucked jus enough current to push it over the edge. Especially when combined with 4 case fans and 2 drives in a dual core system. I unplugged my dvd burner for now jus so I could finish my downloads and its been staying on no problems. Ive found a 450W at a comp store in my town for $40 but I think I want to save up to go higher. Thank you guys for all your help and if when I replace the PSU and it doesnt fix it Ill be back

Trust me you don't want a 450W unit for $40. It isn't about the wattage, it's about the brand. Your PC probably doesn't even use 200W (mine only uses 205W - see my signature for specs), it's just about getting a decent brand PSU.
NEVER SKIMP ON A POWER SUPPLY.

So I found a new power supply and replaced my old one. Now when I turn the PC on it jus beeps and nothing on the screen. Not to sure what happened I never touched any components (Ive been assembling and repairin them for a long time). Ive even tried the old PSU and it still beeps. Hopefully its something as simple as the harddrive plugged in backwards. Also I went from 20 pin to 24 pin shouldnt make a difference tho

some PSU'S have different voltage settings (like a red ribbon on the back') make yours is set to the level (120v us) for your area......all the pins in right? the IDE for the hard drive set right?
