Both have the pros and cons

one has a faster processor, one has a lot more ram

im told the 8600M GS (256MB) and the 9500M GS (512MB) are about equal.

What do you think would be the best buy between these two:

Number One

Number Two

choice 2 takes the cake by a stretch:)
http://www.anitec.ca/product/10480/asus_....4%22_notebook/

this one is so much better, its graphic card has 256mb more dedicated memory on it (the card itself is know for being cooler), its got a finger swipe for protection, its hard drive is 90GB bigger and has a decent RPM for a laptop (it wont vibrate like crazy),

CPU : Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 2.0GHz 800MHz 4M L2 cache

both of they're CPUs are the same, one has .4Ghz more and a higher FSB but you wont feel such a divide, the extra 2gb makes up for it

besides what i have listed above the second one has 3GB of RAM compared to 1GB on the other computer, your not being fair to yourself getting a great processor but limiting it with 2GB less RAM....
its clear.... get your "NUMBER TWO" it supersedes the other one in every which way...well your number 1 has a better burn (supports DL and lightscribe) but that not so bad:) a DVD+RW DL light scribe burner is like 20 bucks anyway:)

the other thing was that the first one with the fast processor has the 800mhz bus, or "Santa Rosa"

i mentioned that before:D nether of they're bus speeds are that great, but the core 2 duo packs a punch!!

beside the drive on the second one being of an older version and not having light scribe and the option to burn DL dvds its a sure thing, but ya id agree wait for a second or third opinion:)
