just hook the cable up to your video car then plug the other end into the tv. turn on the computer and make sure the tv input is on hdmi1 or whatever input you hooked it up to. also you will need to set the resolution at 1366x768.

you said that you had an hmdi dvi adapter. just use that. attach the adapter to the video card. plug a hdmi cable into the adapter and the other end into the tv. if you want to use the component cables you need to get a cable that has male plugs on both sides. plug the cable into the adapter. then plug the other end of the cable into the tv. i think that you can use the yellow white red calbe fore this. just remember to match the colors. ex if you plug the yellow end into the blue on the adapter then plug yelllow into blue on the tv.

component cables won't look as clear as vga or hdmi.
worst to best:
composite -> s-video -> component -> vga -> dvi -> hdmi
ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10

got a whole lot more to list . . .

An HDTV will never look as good as a monitor because the resolution of TVs is so much poorer for the screen size. However, using an HDMI cable you can get the best picture quality you can out of it. Remember to set the correct resolution (1366x768 or 1280x720 for normal LCDs, 1024x768 for Plasmas and 1920x1080 for 1080p LCDs)

Well exactly, a 1080p TV will look alright, but not many people are privileged enough to own one of those, they are after all at least £600 in this country for a cheap no-name brand one.

That should do the trick, and with much better image quality than component (red, green, blue). I'm amazed at how cheap that cable is.
A 55" TV will presumably be a Plasma, or a 720p LCD, so you'll have to sit a fair way back from it without it looking a bit blocky, but it should be an interesting experience.
