I am using Nero 7 and am trying to create a CD that can be read by a DVD player connected to my TV. This is my first project of this type. The DVD player says "check disk" so I think something is wrong. On the CD I see 4 directories, EXT, MPEGAV, SEGMENT and VCD. In the MPEGAV directory there is a large file called AVSEQ01.DAT which does play the movie when manually played using Nero or WMP. So I really need some step by step help.

I own Nero 8 but have not installed it because my USB disconnect feature does not work properly when I read from my memory stick. There might be some issues with my PC which I have not been able to resolve and in about 3 months I do intend to replace this 5 year old PC with a new one containing a DVD burner. I will then install Nero 8.

Any help at this time would be appreciated.

Rick

Sounds more like a disc compatability....your player doesnt like the format of disc you are using. If you are using a +R format..then try a -R format or vice versa.

AVSEQ01.DAT is a the video, and from what you say you have a vcd movie, which yes goes to CDR, but does your player play CDR/VCD ?

OK, I am really new to this; I chose VCD because I thought that was the only choice for CDs. The following is my portable player specs:

Sony DVPFX810 Details:
Plays DVD, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 and JPEG Files

So I guess I have a choice of CD, CD-R, CD-RW. I am not sure what this means. I do not see any formatting selction in the Nerovision menu. Does this mean I must select the right media? If so I generally use CD-R or CD-RW. So I think I am OK?
What is next?

OK, the following is from the brochure:

Video
DVD Playback: Yes
Screen Saver: Yes
DVD+R DL Read Compatibility: Yes
DVD+R Read Compatibility: Yes
DVD+RW Read Compatibility: Yes
DVD-R Read Compatibility: Yes
DVD-RW Read Compatibility: Yes
JPEG Playback: Yes

Audio
CD Playback: Yes (CD, CD-R, CD-RW)
MP3 Playback: Yes

In the manual it says: This player can play the following disks:

Format of disks (table with 5 items)
DVD VIDEO
DVD-RW/-R
DVD+RW/+R
Music CD
CD-RW/-R

So it looks like I can only record my mpg file to a DVD. I will have to wait until I have a PC with a DVD burner.

Are there some specific points I should be considering in my formatting selection when I try to burn this DVD?
Thanks,
Rick

I am back. I found out that my Sony DVPFX810 player only supports writing mpg files to DVD, not CD. That is why it did not play. So I purchased a portable DVD burner. I managed to write a mpg file to DVD that played on my Sony player. Then I gave it to a friend who does not have a computer and would play the DVD on her DVD player that she would use when she rented movies. To my surprize my copy which worked on my Sony player could not be played by my friend. So what else should I be looking for?

Read up on book marking if using DVD+R.

It may be the brand of discs you used.

It's hard to say with out any real information and simply telling us it didnt play.
