someone unplugged my i/o magic enclosure without doing the safe removal first. and now i get this error: "usb device not recognized. one of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it." is there a fix for this? i've taken it out of it's case and tried connecting an IDE cable but it wouldn't fit. it used to work fine before. tried it on several computers, still get error.

what do you mean doesnt fit

you dont have to install it to test ...just run cables to it

i would install it into another enclosure or right to the ide control

sometimes the drive is good but the circuit board in the enclosure pops

let us know more when you know more

How big is the drive? Is it a 2.5" or 3.5" drive? It may also be S-ATA, in which case an IDE cable definitely won't work.

if you have a digital camera post a link to it's picture or use a scanner by placing the connection end face down and scan the information side of the harddrive and post that too

this way we'll have something to help you identify it

could even be scuzzi

messure the width too

you'll want to isolate the enclosure and the harddrive .. if the HD runs then trash the enclosure... i've had a few enclosures go on me.
i need to spend more on them *W*

Once you've established a data and power cable and it still doesnt work then you may want to use software programs to try to bring it alive (if thats possible)

good luck

Well I suppose since you can run SCSI cables outside the PC then why not, but realistically I've not seen it.
