Sometimes when I load a DVD into TMPGEnc DVD Author I only get half the movie. For example it finds the movie correctly and the size is 7000MB, but then in the next step when I rip it to the HD for faster editing it only rips 3500MB. This doesn't happen always just sometimes. Any ideas what could cause this problem?

Huh!!

are you trying to rip a movie with TMPGEnc DVD Author????

It is possible you have a problem with your methodology.

Need more info than that, OK.

I've had the same problem trying to write MPEGs onto DVD - the .mpg file will be, say, 1.15GB in size, but DVD Author will only see 600MB of it. Glad to see I'm not the only one!

It has nothing to do with rippin' the movie. Like Daishi said, when I click Add DVD-video in Source Setup and choose a title (which capacity is let's say 5000MB), then in the final settings page (3/3) it only copies 3500MB (leaves half the movie). This has happened in two occasions, but usually there's no problem. I'm just wondering what could cause this problem.

Aha!

me understands...

it SEEMS (unable to verify that as a fact) that TMPGEnc DVD Author reads the structure and contents data from the IFO when using a DVD Video.

I had a similar problem with a film I moved from one hard drive to another, somehow the IFO got corrupted in someway, it would play fine in PoweDVD.....

I re-created the IFO's using IFOEdit (they were originally created with that), ran it through TMPGEnc DVD Author and BINGO!!!

Hope this helps.

I think I have actually solved this problem now (or my version of it at least!):

The .mpg files I was trying to burn had been encoded in VCD format. I have since tried it with an .mpg that had been converted to DVD format via TMPGEnc. This one was accepted in its entirity and the disk burnt and played perfectly.

I'm trying a second file now, which will hopefully confirm this theory.

That could be the problem. Thanks drchips. I now have to start practising using IFOEdit.
