I just installed Nero 8, including Recode 3.1.2.0. The first film I recoded to Nero Digital was a 1h 40min dvd (copied previously to hard drive intact using Slysoft AnyDVD and CloneDVD2). Nero recode transcoded this film to MP4 at same resolution, AVC video, AAC audio, with two audio tracks and two subtitle tracks, in 1h 25min (slightly faster than real time).

The next film I transcoded took slightly loger than real time using all the same perameters. No complaints here.

Now, every single film I try to transcode with Nero Recodes is running about 3 to 4 frames per second, so the time to transcode a 1h 30min film is a dozen hours or more.

What is wrong here? My pc is a P4, 2.8ghz (single core) with 2.5gb ram. When I run Recode, I run nothing else, so Recode has the cpu to itself (which it keeps pegged at about 96% capacity. My spare hard drive space is <10gb, but it was when I did the first two films so quickly. I can't think of anything which has changed. To go from transcoding at 22 -- 27 fps to transcoding at 3 -- 4 fps is a dramatic change, but I can't think of anything else with the system which changed at the same time. I'm using the same profiles and perameters. What's the deal?

I'd rather be biking or hiking, but until then....

I would also recommend you upgrade to a core 2 Duo or better yet a Quadcore, you will see your editing and recoding increase by ten fold.....

Could someone please shoot me a link where I can find a motherboard which will support four quad-core cpus (16 total cores)? Preferably one which which will support 16gb of 3000mhz ram?

I'd rather be biking or hiking, but until then....
