The xbox 360 can certainly be used as an effective media center, but it uses twice as much power as a PC (based on a file server PC with a dual core CPU and four hard drives - 85W for the PC, 165W for the xbox), and it's usually noisier as well. A cheap HTPC would probably be a better bet. Given the recent price drops of PC parts it could end up cheaper as well.

Hah, better games. Well I'll admit that the 360 has some decent titles the PC has, but the graphical quality of the games is crap compared to the PC (where most of the 360's titles are also available). *Better* is subjective.

what do you mean by recon, GRAW? because if you do, that's on the PC as well, both versions. With the exception of a few titles such as Halo 3 and Dead Rising, most of the games that are on the 360 that are any good are also on the PC. The PC also has many times more exclusive games than the 360 does. I own a 360 (albeit not entirely) as well as a PC, so there is sufficient reason for me to have one, but the PC is far more a gaming platform than the 360 is or ever will be.

The 360 is £159 without the hard drive, in the most basic form. it's still over £200 for the proper version. Pound for pound the 360 is a cheaper gaming system, but the PC is a better means of doing it if you have the funds to do it.
Remember, when you're building a PC, NEVER use a cheap PSU. They always create problems. Get a proper unit like a Corsair VX or Seasonic S12.

No. 360 ''Hasing recon'' means that the 360 has H3. Has recon is an inside halo joke.

And the PC does not have achievements.

Individual games have their own achievements, for example all the Valve games, and games like Call of Duty 4 also do. Granted, not all PC games have achivements, but that's a pretty shallow reason to prefer the xbox considering all the other benefits a PC offers.

Yeah, but they don't add to your gamerscore.

Thank goodness there's Games for Windows LIVE.

Who cares? If your gamescore means that much to you, I think you're a bit over-paranoid.

Well with the 360 you dont have to keep upgrading to play new games thats why I like it. Although the PC has good graphics it usually comes at a hefty price.

The PC is certainly not the cheaper option - but while with the PC you have to upgrade to stay with the tech, with the 360 the games just become increasingly more outdated compared to the PC versions. As far as I'm concerned this is a mark against the 360 because you can't upgrade it.

KingJude:

DEFINATELY go with the PC if you have the means. A PC is a better choice 100%.

It cant be touched graphically. You may eventually have to upgrade RAM or a graphics card, but even if you wanted to on a 360, you couldn't. The closest thing to an upgrade you can get with a 360 is a "refurb" from customer support.. and it will most likely be a crappier version than the one you mailed in, I don't even have to argue that, a quicke google search for it will confirm what I'm saying. You can purchase an internal HDD with more than 5x the space for a PC for the same (usually less) price as the 360 proprietary HDD. You won't need to wory about shelling out 50 bucks a year for Xbox LIVE. While this isn't true for ALL PC titles, as some do charge for online play, however many do not. The titles that do charge usually aren't even availale on the 360 anyway.

The 360 is limited by the fact that all of its game data comes from the DVD9 discs it plays. That breaks down to less than 9 gigs of info for EVERY game. At first glance this doesn't seem to be a big deal, then you do some research and delve into the watered down games that will have to be produced for the 360 in order to fit compression schemes due to the size limits of these discs, and ask yourself why you are paying 60 bucks a game do get that "quality". On a PC, you have that awesome ability to utilize the CHEAPER hard drive for gaming space and thus are not limited by the size of your optical drive.

I could go on and on about why you should pick the PC as there is NOTHING absolutely NOTHING the 360 does better. I got rid of my 360 after being let down over and over by its faults and flaws.

... and F#King achievements!? Who the hell cares? I don't give a shit how many halo skulls my friend found.. it still doesn't change the fact that Halo 3 was a game that fell short of what it could have been due to the fact it was developed for the 360's system specs.

... and on a side note, when Halo 3 comes out for the PC (just like Halo 2 did) you will enjoy it more with a keyboard and mouse, as that is how a FPS is best played.

I believe you can get an adapter to fully use a keyboard and mouse for the 360, don't know whether it will work with Halo 3 or not, but if it does, I think I just got a lot better at that game. Analog sticks are alright for some games, but for FPS they really are abysmal.
Oh, and I think you forgot to mention that PC games are cheaper...

YES! They certainly are. Ironic considering the potential difference graphically. I also should have mentioned the Media capabilities the PC has which BLOW AWAY any of the competition. With a PC to TV adapter of ones choice (RCA, S-video, HDMI etc.) you could watch any flash, divx, MK4, etc files without any quality loss and not have to worry about he 360 supporting those codecs. It seems a waste to stream files from your PC to a less powerful 360 when you can skip the middle man and not worry about buffering large files or fitting them onto the 360's HDD. This is also MUCH MUCH cheaper (potentially free really) in comparison to the paltry choices offerd on Xbox Live for download.

Analog sticks are not abysmal for FPS. That's exaggerating. Once you get used to them they're ok. But the PC gives more accuracy, so it's a bit better.

And you obviouslt don't really care about achievements because you do not own a 360.

Actually I do own a 360 and a PC, so I have first hand experience, and I can tell you, FPS with analog sticks compared to a proper mouse is worlds apart.

Well I'm assuming you're more used to the console you play with more, which is the PC. So you prefer the mouse because you're used to it. I however am okay with both.

They aren't equal. using a control stick for FPS is refreshingly different, but it's certainly inferior to a mouse. In any case, the answer's pretty definitive. You should only buy the xbox if that's all you can afford, in an ideal world you should have both.
