Can't change booktype

I have a DVD drive that won't allow me to change the booktype to DVD-Rom, yet I burned a 360 games and it works fine on my 360, now I got another game and I burned it and my 360 won't read it at all, is it because of the booktype setting? Does it apply to some games and not applied to the other games? Or is it just a bad burn?
