Hi guys, I have used Nero for most of my burning needs for years and found it faultless.
Many people slate Nero, but i have always recommended it to friends.
BUT, i backed up a movie last week using the same procedure as normal, DVD Decrypter, DVD2ONE and Nero. This has worked for all of my burns to date, but this one failed.
I used the same media as i usually use and when i played the VOBS back in Power DVD they were fine.
When i tried the burned DVD in my PC it loaded and seemed ok, but when I f/fwd through the film it was ok until it hit 8x, then it came up with an error (can't remeber exact message) but said something was wrong and may prohibit playback.
If I just played the film it was fine until I f/fwd.
It was tried in standalone and worked for about 10mins then it just stopped, no jumping or glitching, just stopped totally and DVD player said error.
Now, i was sure this couldnt be my ripping process or burning process, so i tried different media. Same results.
For some reason i downloaded CloneDVD and tried using the trial, it burnt fine and played in Power DVD fine, f/fwd fine and worked in standalone fine!!!
I cant believe this was a Nero problem as it never happened before now, I tried different media in Nero and burnt both 4x with Nero and Clone. I have done a few backups since but have used Clone, all have been faultless.
Sorry for the lenghthy post, just wondered if any of you clever After-Dawners had any ideas.

Cheers Guys.

EDIT : clearing up spelling mistakes :)

Try burning slower, works for me. O yes, ditch Nero, it really is as bad as people say :))

Hiya,

as iced says, burn slow, ditch Nero as far as DVD burning is concerned (when it comes to CDs then Nero IS THE KING, but NOT DVDs).

Just my opinion, Your Mileage May Vary(tm)

Maybe the drive needs cleaning (laser lens etc dirty).

Have Fun...

Life is just more of the same:

Hi guys, thanks for the replys. Thats why i use this forum!!
One thing I dont get, well two really. Nero has always worked up till now and I burnt at 4x with Clone on the same media and that worked.
I totally agree with speed thing though guys, this has been a big culprit in the past for me.
Ho-hum, will stick with Clone for now, seems to do the job well.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Easy solution as far as i can see. DONT USE Nero. If it don't work fix it. So it worked in the past, it doesn't now, o well, Clone it is, or something else. Not hard solution really.
"Ho Hum", all done !!

I can attest that Nero just plain won't work for dvds in some situations where other software if perfectly fine.

I do suggest, if you continue to burn with Nero, that you perform the data verification.

I've moved on to other burning software, and all my problems burning are gone. As stated above, Nero is great for CDs, but horrible for dvds. it's true.

Which version of Nero are you all using ?? I've been using Nero 6 Ultra for a while, no problems with DVD, PS2, CD. Give it a try.

Hi, yeah mine was Nero 6 ultra too.
I was using 5.5 for ages with no problems and updated to 6 almost immediately when it was released. Has worked flawlessly until recently.
A friend suggested it could have been one or two bad dvds in the batch that i bought, i guess thats a possibility.
Clone seems pretty cool though.

I use Nero 6.0 also. I had the same problem where the disc would suddenly give me an error message halfway - something about a read error and possible scratch. However it plays fine on my standalone.

The solution was to upgrade from PowerDVD 4.0! PowerDVD 5.0 works fine. WinDVD also seems fine.

I think it's just an erractic thing between PowerDVD 4.0 and Nero 6.0.

I cant believe what I am hearing...Nero has been my only burnin software fore years.I have used it to backup 87 DVD's so far. I even play the burned discs on an HD widescreen tv..Perfect.
I use DVD Shrink to "rip" the disc...DVD2One to compress it and my buddy Nero to burn it. There is a guide about that somewhere..but I cant find it right now.

Hi all, its not just powerdvd that was causing me a problem, it wouldnt play in my standalone, it did for a short while then just died....
I too have used Nero for years and like it a lot, as i said in the first post, but a fail is a fail and i wasnt sure why.
I tried all the things i said above but the only way i got it to work was with Clone. Im going with what my friend said i think, could have just been a couple of bad DVDs.
Im gonna stick with Clone for a while, don't like to comment on things I havent used, so if i use it for a bit maybe ill be able to recommend it, or warn against it.

Could it be the labels?
Look around www.dvdrhelp.com for a thread on labels, or try removing the labels on the failed disks you have...

I too am having problems with Nero 6.3

I use Recode to shrink and then Nero to burn.
I do a data verify test and on the last 6 DVDs the verification failed.
I ised teh Nero CD-DVD speed test app and that also fails about 75% of the way into the DVD.

I use a Pioneer 106D drive and Ritek G04 media

Also I might add...It says to strip the credits and start screen.I would recomend stripping the credits at the end , but dont strip anything at the start.Sometimes the voices will be slightly out of sync.
