She was working fine just a few days ago. Now, I go to copy a DVD, and it will write to the harddrive without a hiccup. Then, once I load the CD, it thinks about it for a minute or so, then gives me this error (log below):

Thanks for the warning on the serial #. That one slipped right by me.

I went ahead and tried the suggestions, and nothing seemed to quite work. So, I went ahead and bought a new drive and stuck it in... and problem solved. Sigh. I guess I just finally burned out the DVD writing laser. At least the last straw that broke the camels back was a copy of DVDs about my Grandpa's life given out to the family...

I went for an internal, Pioneer 40x. Just got it in. Now I have a new baffling problem (that seems unrelated to the burner...), but I think that'll warrant a new thread. Sigh!

Well, I just started the thread here:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/660274

Basically, I know it isn't a problem with the new burner (I checked the first disc I ran off it to make sure it worked, which it did)... But, it's happening with two different DVDs I want to copy, which baffles me. Never had this happen before.

Uhhh, I think the recommended later versions have now screwed up my burning for some reason... The burned DVDs aren't working on my DVD player (but working on the computer fine) since I put them on one of my computers.

Help? Can I go back to what I originally had... or do I even need to? Is there some weird setting that is awry? I'm not getting any burn errors, but my DVD player isn't recognizing the discs anymore.

It will NOT be the fault of your burning app...have you recently changed your discs, like have you just started a new bundle...changed the format (say from +R to-R)..or changed brands.

This version of Nero 6....6.6.0.18 is poosibly the BEST version they released.

Nope, I haven't changed discs - still pulling from the same bundle I was right before the chance. I haven't changed the write speed, or anything of how it is burning... Just opening with Shrink, ripping to the hard drive, then setting Nero to burn. Only now, my DVD player is hanging up on it and not recognizing anything.

Tried now to go back and copy several discs that worked fine before I ran the update, so I'm a little baffled as to what has changed. Just removed the Roxio conflicting stuff, updated the Nero... and then all the discs since then will work on the computer, but not the DVD player...

Ideas????

Alright, I'm not exactly a burning newb, but you've stumped me there. My DVD player should use NTSC format (right?), so where in Nero and/or Shrink do I have an option of changing NTSC/PAL settings????? And, what should they be on????

I am running DVD43 in the background, though, so shouldn't that remove region coding anyway...? (These discs should be coded for the US anyway - so I'm thinking this is some sort of a changed setting in Nero... but again, I'm still stumped.)

Update: Checked here and didn't see my specific pioneer burner listed, but all of them seemed compatible with DVD-Rs, so it shouldn't be a disc problem (plus I burned a DVD fine right off the bat from the same bundle I'm pulling from now, before the updates)...

I went into my nerohistory file and pulled the last logfile. Again, I had no errors, so I don't know if it'll help:

ok to recap you rip originals with dvd42 and dvd shrink to iso

then burn iso with nero and imgburn and both apps allow play on pc but not standalone?

have you changed media lately or is your standalone giving up? have you tried any other standalone players yet?

pal or ntsc thing is prolly ok then as your only useing nero/imburn for burning not encoding.
---------------------
also region isnt the same as pal or ntsc, regions go from 1 to 9 i think

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

Yes, that summary is correct. No, I haven't changed the media - still drawing from the same huge bundle and haven't had a problem with any discs before yesterday... Just have had the problem since the Roxio cleaner / Nero updates.

The DVD player is still playing everything that was burned before those updates fine.

Haven't tried another standalone yet, but I will later this afternoon probably.

Any ideas, other than get a new DVD player???

ok in that case i would just re check dvd shrink settings and dvd43

maybe for region made to region free etc.

hmm have you tried re ripping a dvd that does play? as it could just be the latest dvd you ripped needs more work done to it like fixvts or vobblanker to be used on it, as some later dvds need help now! shrink alone is no good!

do you rip main movie only?

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

Yes, I tried ripping and burning a DVD that previously worked fine - and the newly burned disc wouldn't play on the DVD player, so I don't think this is an encoding problem.

I tried playing the discs on an Xbox 360, and that seemed to read them. I'm still hunting down another standalone DVD player to try the new burns on. Though I can't imagine why my regular DVD player just suddenly stopped reading what I burn, especially the same disc I did just yesterday that worked just fine...

The region control in my Nero says "RPC II", and region code "None". That ok? And where else should I be looking for features that need editting?
