I just installed a Duo 3 Ultra mod chip in a v7 PS2, and the installation went fine, no bridged contacts according to the multimeter.

It worked great for about an hour.

Then after trying a PS1 backup, the console wouldn't boot the game, it kept going back into the browser, showing the PS1 disc icon.
I then restarted the system and tried a PS2 CD-R backup and nothing came up on the screen after the Playstation 2 logo. I restarted the system and no A/V appeared on the TV, I put it in standby and shut it off from the back, waited a few seconds and turned it back on and A/V appeared.
I then tried a PS2 DVD-R backup and the game booted fine and I was able to get into gameplay, but the background music ended up cutting out previously during the level select screen.

Now games just seem to be freezing within minutes of getting into them, forcing me to restart the system, resulting with no A/V.

Also my laser has never been the same with this new replacement motherboard, it clicks like 15 times before it starts to boot a PS2 DVD-R game. It did this for both of my used lasers, and my brand new laser doesn't even seem to work, I hope I can get a replacement.

What could the A/V problem possibly be? I don't know where to look and my multimeter can't pick it up by any of my solder joints. Could the mod chip need a better 3.3v power spot? If anybody has any idea, please say it. Thanks

I know this sounds dumb, but re-check that all your connections match up to the diagram on the duo website. Also, I use different 3.3v and ground connections then the duo site diagrams suggest.

I use the chipmod diagram on www.modchip.ca to solder my ground and power connections to. Hopefully you know to use larger wires on these connections?

Seems to work for me.

If your ps2 is clicking, stop using it. You can only damage it more by continuing to run it testing different games.

Thanks for the help, I'll look into an alternate 3.3v power point on my v7 motherboard and yes I do use thicker gauge wire for my ground and power points. But I don't know why the laser is clicking, but it only seems to do that during the browser screen while it is trying to boot a game, I have no clue why it is doing it but I have a couple extra lasers lying around just in case something happens. The other one that I tested also clicked while reading a game at startup, so I wonder if it could be something else? If anybody has anything more that they would like to say, please do. Thanks

Did some reading on the clicking noise.

Take the top cover off your ps2. Power unit on, and eject the tray. Power unit off, and unplug. Take the cover off your drive to expose the laser. Look at the rails. Are they dried up, perhaps with some lint and crap on them? Lubricate those, screw the top of the drive back on and test your unit with the top cover off.

Let us know what happens at that point.

I've lubricated the slider rails and worm gear, but I think the noise is coming from the laser itself. I'm not for certain though, but I have a couple more CD/DVD drives laying around which I can install and see if the clicking is coming from the laser or the drive. Thanks for the reply.
