So....what do I do? Going back to Gwendolin's post - is this a case of a drive needing service? Is it worth servicing a 3 year old drive or is it a better bet to just get a new one?

above sounds a good idea, but i cant let go of your burn does get so far through, disc code is seen also but! not in the toc/mid code section/reading.

also try useing everything from main C:\ drive not spare HD. spare HD has DMA off remember (bad transfering speed etc).

and

if just burning use imgburn to test as i have seen nero not burn and imgburn burn ok with same pc setup.

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

I had tried burning everything from the C: drive, and it only worked one of the three times I tried (last week).

I gave in tonight & bought a new burner. Have burned 4 DVDs in a row without any issues - its been months since I've been able to do that. Started with files on the C drive then switched to some files on the D drive. The drive is a Pioneer DVR-1910LS. (I bought a Pioneer for my last computer as an upgrade and didn't have any issues with it. I'm sure there are a lot of opinions regarding HW choices, but I went with my "it worked last time" theory).

Thank you all for all the help trying to get this working. I'm sure now that it was the drive all along, although it was probably compounded by the driver, DMA, etc. issues.
