I am using Nero 8 (latest) and using it to burn files from one DVD which I created on a Sony DVDirect recorder to my internal DVD. I have a 30 second file and it takes 8 minutes to burn. Also, the source file takes up only a small band on the DVD but the copy takes up almost a quarter of the new DVD. This cannot be right.
I would appreciate someone who might know this problem to help me.
Yes, is there a better way to do it. Here is my situation.
I record conventions and need to have 4 camera's running in different rooms for student performers. They will all be fed back to a central location svhs into 4 SonyDV Direct recorders. Every 7 minutes I will need to stop recording and restart to get different files. When the disk is full I connect it to my PC and choose which files the students have ordered to separate DVD's.
Now, I can first import the files to my hard drive but copying them from there does not save any time. Time is critical as I need to deliver product by the end of the day and with 200 students it will take for ever at 8 minutes
But what about the second part of the question. Why would the transfered file take up so much more room on the DVD. Should be the same.?
fact of nature, yuor file comes as one format and has to be converted to another! time factor can be tweeked maybe slightly but the main part of the time will remain, so you may have to look at other ways for the time/window you have to work with..
by the way what is the format they come in?, as if played on pc keep file as is maybe and do a data burn, VLC is an awesome free player, play most anything! and you could drop vlc on each dvd! as its a tiny tiny file. take 1 second to data dvd.

By simply copying to my hard drive and then using disk copy I can burn each individual file. I also purchased a 20x Sony DVD/CD drive which is twice as fast as my internal DVD drive. This works fine. I think my mistake was trying to re-encode everything when it did not need it. Now it takes less than 2 minutes for each file and that is fine.
