HI All! I Recently brought The Retail boxed version of Nero 8 Ultra Edition from a online computer store and have a few questions if someone could help me please.
On the box it says it requires activation for full dvd, mpeg etc, is this true ?.
The reason I ask is that I only installed it a few days ago and so far it has not asked for activation.
Could it have activated with out me knowing ? and if not how do you activate it ?.
I should explain that so far I have only used it to watch a few DVD's and organize some pictures in Nero Home.
The next question is, I'am going to reformat my hard drive in a few weeks time and was wondering does the activation work like Microsoft Windows does, that is if you don't change any hardware settings it should reactivate ?.
My final question is how do I check which version or update I have ?. I have right clicked a few of the Icons but they don't tell me anything.

go to control panel in nero tool kit (start menu / nero) to see what versions you have...
but i wouldnt be too hasty updating as nero v8.3.2.1 has a few probs...
go to DVD-VIDEO project tab in nero vision and hover over it with your mouse, then some writing will appear bottom right saying if the dvd plugin is found/enabled.

HI ROTARY! thanks for answering my questions. I've checked the Control Panel and it shows differnt numbers for each Nero tool, for instance Nero Burning Rom shows 8.1.1.1, Nero Start Smart shows 8.1.4.0 etc.
It also says last checked for updates (never, so it is still straight out of the box version.
The control panel shows a key for license and shows my serial number used during install and listed as "expiration none", so it looks like I can unistall and reinstall when ever I need to with out activation, ( WHEW! Big Relief ).
The DVD-VIDEO project tab in nero vision shows that DVD-Plugin has been decteted.
As regards to what my main intention for Nero is. I brought mainly to burn pictures to DVD for now, but want to purchase Camera and movie camera later for hobby reasons and to use Nero for editing and saving home made films etc.
