Hi all, i know this question has probably been asked a million and one times but please help. The problem is that i can not see why my system takes this long to load now. I used to have it down to around a minute and i know that all my files slow it down, but now it takes over 2 minutes. I can not see what is slowing my laptop down, please help, because i just know it should be faster. I would just wipe the hard drive and start over but it has no cd drive and all the guide to booting from a usb drive seem to still have glitches. Thanks

							Hi h1ten
autoruns (a great tool, by the way) to see what loads at startup. It could also be due to your files being fragmented, your registry cluttered, your hard drive full, malware, or the worst of all, hardware failure. It really is a hard problem to solve.

See this is what has stumped me, i do not have many programs, more or less all are shown in the hijackthis report. I defragment the hard drive every so often so it is not that, i run scans weekly (spybot and avg ) so it can't be a virus.
BootVis defines boot and resume times as the time from when the power switch is pressed to the time at which the user is able to start a program from a desktop shortcut. The application measures time taken during Windows XP's boot or resume period . BootVis can also defragment the files accessed during boot to improve startup performance (however a similar optimization is already done in the background by Windows XP every three days).

I would check your ide/sata controllers. Make sure that they are not set to PIO, they need to be UDMA. That will be a major slowdown.
