Ok I have version 5 fat Playstation 2 and I want to be able to play back ups on it. I do not really want to install a modchip so I think I am going to go with Swap Magic. My question is can I use a hard drive with Swap Magic? Does it need to be an external USB hard drive or internal IDE hard drive? Since I would be running games from the hard drive will this help preserve the life of my PS2 like with the laser?

What else do I need to do this? Any other programs like USB Extreme? Also I have seen people mention needing a network adapter for the PS2....do I need one and why?

hello im a noob as well with a little more research experience. so if you want a hdd id go internal better loading speeds and its built in. yes you do need a network adapter it connects the internal hdd to the ps2. if you go usb i think it runs slower and is no better then putting a disk in other then your saving your laser and your paying a backup. for internal HDD youl need Hd advance or hd loader, and if you want to run usb hdd you need usb extreme but hd advance i hear has the best game compatibility. well thats all i got but dont be afraid to search at the top, all the info is here you just need to find it.

hi there sorry but i aint got a clue what modding,swap magic are its all jargen to me, i have just brought a network adapter and harddrive and would like to know how to store games on hdd so i dont have to put the discs in anymore, some one said i need a cd for this but dont know how to get hold of one could anyone please help

search for hdloader.org should be all you need.
