Ok, I'm trying to build a low cost gaming pc (I'm 15 and haven't started work yet). I've looked at some things I want already, I'll post those later.
My specs:
Amd Athlon 64 LE- 1600 (single core)@ 2.2 Ghz
Mobo: MS-7253
Ram: 1 Gb Pc2- 5300 avant tech I think @ 667 Mhz running at 314.3mhz
Seagate 80Gb Serial ATA
Seagate 20 Gb IDE
WD 10 Gb Ide
Psu: HP-P3507F5W
Onboard Graphics card (going to list some)
Atapi Dvd drive dual layer etc. (doesnt really matter I guess)
Ok I'm really only wanting to play a few games (Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, Half life, etc

There are more but those looked pretty good to me. Problem is I don't have any money to spend on anything above $200.(I'm selling my old computer so maybe I'll be able to get some money).
Also as for the Ram I'm willing to wait seeing as 1 Gb will run most games.
Also anyone have any ideas for a new low price (below $100) PSU?
I'm not worried about my Cpu right now seeing as I can get them pretty cheap (W00t for AMD).
Just tell me what I should probably get for such a low budget.

Processors have dropped so much in price that a Dual Core processor won't add that much to your budget so drop the single core notion. If however you are looking to build something that competes with Wal-Mart's ultra budget rigs then forget it! They won't play even the most undemanding games, but if you adjust your thinking a little and provide a dollar budget limit then a workable and even effective modest gaming rig is possible. Tell us what you want and then let us run with our ideas?

Budget is around $500-$1000 depending on how much I make this summer.
The dual core thing I'm not worried about the processor but hey I can probably shell out a couple a couple more bucks to get one.
I'm not looking to beat the Wal-mart machines. My dad bought the computer custom built but he didn't really spend that much on it though($550).
I'm just mainly looking for a decent graphics card in the rang of $100-$300. Also ideas for a PSU please and maybe the mobo if I need to.

I'm not really a big fan of Intel really. I like my AMD's. Mainly because they're just more useful to me.

how are they more usefull? they are slower than intel and dont overclock as high.

Ehh, I just want to use an Intel. Plus I believe that I read somewhere that Amd's are better than Intel things like video encoding and other things. Anyways if I get an Intel it's not going to be for a while. right now I'm just getting a few things for now.

Ehh I was just reading around when I saw that. Hmm it might of been the other way around but it said Amd was better for something can't remember though. But as of the moment I'll just be getting an Amd. When I get more money and I'll make an Intel (next summer maybe if I don't spend all of it on band stuff).

Actually scratch that $500-$1000 budget. I just remembered I'm buying a trumpet before school so I have to cut it down to about $300-$500.

right now amd has better memory performance due to the integrated memory controller but that doesnt do much for games. i dont know why you wouldnt just get intel now. it would be about the same price and there would be a big performance difference. trust me i had a 3600 x2 oc'd to 2.7. it was a nice cpu but when i upgraded to an e2200 that i oc'd to 3.2 it was a huge difference in games. everything ran smoother and faster. you wont regret it you buy intel :)

The "AMD is better for this, Intel is better for that" is relatively meaingless. Yes, architectural differences give slight advantages in certain areas, but on the whole the hugely greater performance of the Intel CPUs means they're almost irrelevant.
