Hello guys,
I am not a novice but I have never done what I am thinking about so I thought I would seek advice. My computer is about five years old now, pentium 1.8ghz, 512 ram, slow but reliable. I saw on sale an "upgrade kit" basically the box, motherboard w/cpu, 2 gig ram, good video card, blah blah blah. All I would need to do is install my hard drives (I have 2) and my dvd drives (again, 2) and I'm off to the races, right? I have XP on my current system. What sorts of problems will I expect to see when I try to boot this thing, or since everything is plug and play now, will it work like a champ? Any advice will be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
jeffncris

i dont fully understand what your actually saying here but ill try and answer. compared to your current rig i would definetly upgrade but it depends on what your using rig for..... gaming obviously that would be a nice budget build for you to start off with....

you shouldnt have any problems what so ever... just install your motherboard drivers and your fine.... your xp install already contains everything other than that anyway.... you wont lose anything and you should benefit greatly in the speed of this.....

hope i answered your question :)

If the new motherboard uses a different chipset type to your old PC (given how old your current PC is that's very likely) then it is unlikely that you will be able to use your old XP install due to incompatibilities. Sometimes you get lucky, but don't leap into this expecting it to work. Have your XP CD handy in case you need to reinstall. You *should* be able to reinstall windows without losing any data on your drive.

Well, sorry to sound condescending, but you stated "you shouldnt have any problems what so ever" - and doing exactly what jeffncris would like to do has caused me many problems in the past.
