Yes but I'm trying to rip audiobook CD's into mp3's & don't need the lowest speed 128k quality that WMP encodes at. 64k would be great however WMP won't rip at that bit rate. Oh well I've already ripped 7 books with WMP 11 and they sound great in Winamp....

You can also try CDex.
And then there's my favorite, Exact Audio Copy.

Windows media player can rip at 64k or have I read your reply wrong?
Start windows media player tools-options-copy music-and move the slider down

Nope, that doesn't work with WMP 11. Options (under rip) only allows you to go down to 128k as the smallest size. I can be happy with that. The fact is I'm used to getting audiobook mp3 rips done at 64k from other sources & I thought perhaps there was a way to rip at that bitrate. Since the rips I'm making are just for me then 128k will be fine.
Still haven't figured out to to rip mp3's from CD's with Nero 8 though......

Read this might be some help
http://www.nero.com/eng/support-faq.html?s=sub&t=Mp3
I have a full version of Nero 8 bought from Nero's web site. Nero Waveditor will save in mp3 format with no problem however I can't find any part of Nero that will rip a CD into mp3 format. Maybe they took it out?

OK, I'll stick with the Windows Media Player for the CD rips. It seems to be fine for that task.

No you were calling Microsoft stupid for dropping 64k encoding in WMP 11. And yes we can be good friends if you like. So have a nice day.....
