I have been using Nero for a few months to convert my avi's to DVD. A couple of weeks ago it just stopped working. I have tried Nero 8 with no results. (Switched back to 7 cuz I like it better). I can't burn data discs or DVD movies. I have checked and updated my firmware and drivers for my disc drives. I have defragged my hard drive, I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times using the Nero clean tool, I have checked DMA mode and it is on, and last I have tried the ForceASPI. Nothing has worked so far. I am using Sony DVD+R media, but no medium has worked yet. Hopefully someone out there can give me a hand with this, here is my log:

you always used these discs?

Disc Manufacturer ID: SONY, Media Type ID: D21

did you use BOTH! clean tools v7 and v8 then install v7?
---------------------

also this drive is very very old, i have 1, and i would like to know where you got that firmware as it only goes to v1.08 yours is v1.10

http://wwwbsc.pioneer.co.jp/product-e/ib...2r_e.html#f_a06

drive maybe dying, i think mine may burn too much laser now, not used it for couple years now, i see a thin ring burn deeper than the whole burn sometimes, i bought new drive now lite-on and never looked back!

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

yeah, I know this drive is extremely old. It works fine creating a 1:1 copy of a DVD though. I don't remember where I got the firmware, but I do know it wasn't from the manufacturer's website. I'll try going back to v.1.08 and see if that helps. I did use the clean tools for 7 and 8 before reinstalling 7. I also ran the Roxio zapper too, just in case. I have used these discs for a long time, I've tried other brands but these seemed to work the best, until lately.

I think I'll probably end up having to get a new drive. I bought this computer in 2001, and the only thing I've upgraded was the RAM. Any suggestions on a new drive? I'd like to try something with Litescribe if it's any good. Thanks for the help.
