Just bought a new laptop. It's a HP PAVILLION and ofcourse came loaded with vista. this is my issue. i usually watch my episodes of my favorite series on my laptop. I take the episodes in question and burn the avi files onto a dvd disc. I would like to state i do not convert them to dvd format unless i want to watch them on my dvd player. I use nero to burn the dvd files. I select dvd, then i select the option that lets me burn any kind of dvd files. Upon playback on the newlap using vlc, i find that it's choppy and it freezes. my concern is, is there something wrong with my dvd\cd reader on the new laptop OR does the burn speed im using when im burning the dvd have anything to do with it. please take into account i did not use the new laptop to burn the disk, i am using my older desktop. Would the speed the desktop is burning at have anything to do with the playback being choppy and freezing? also note on the couple of occasions it froze, i havn't even been able to open the dvd drawer, i have to reboot to get that disk out. Im concerned as to wether it's the medio, burn speed , or if there is something wrong with the dvd driver , or if vista and these new machines are just sensitive about playing dvd FILES that are burned on a different computer. I hope I was as detailed as possilbe and not to repetative. If anyone is aware of a similar issue and if it's possible that the burn speed can make playback choppy, please let me know. of course if that may not be the case i'll have to take the laptop back to the store in case there is a faulty dvd\cd burner reader.
Could be a number of things
1 what burn speed are you burning
2 what brand of media are you using
3 have you got all the correct codec?s installed on your computer
4 what media player are you watching the file on
5 Nero isn?t very good at burning divx files well wasn?t for me
6 are you burning divxavi files if yes just burn them as a data DVD 7 is dma enabled
8 the list could go on post a Nero log would help
Also if you are just watching them on your laptop why burn them to disk in the first place watch them straight of the hard drive if the files are on another computer just get a thumb stick drag the files over or use a dvdrw and just make a data disk and then drag them of the disk on to your hardrive
Hi thank you for your response. On the norm, yes I would use a memory stick to watch the file on a another computer. However, my memory stick broke :) time to buy a new one. With the occasion of having to transfer the file to a cd\dvd it gave me an opportunity to see how the new laptop works. You raised some very good points in your reply message. the issue of the dvds playing choppy via a dvd file concerns me because i do not know if it's a hardware issue on the new laptop or if it's just how the dvd burned. with that said, you suggested that i burned as dvd data, this i have already done, the second is yes, i am using nero and i believe it is burning at max speed . Now, another point you made was if the codecs on the computer are up to date? How do i check if the codecs are up to date? and when you say the codecs on the computer i assume you mean the laptop because that is where i am playing back the video. I am using vlc. Also, what is the best burn speed ?
Like I said it could be just that your DVD player on your laptop doesn?t like the disk what brand are they? You could try just drag the file of the disk and see if it plays ok from your hardrive this option isn?t and given indication because the burn to the disk in the first place could be bad due to poor quality disk I noticed after I posted that you are using vlc player so I don?t think it?s a codec?s problem when you burn a data DVD or a DVD-video don?t burn say any faster then 6x don?t multi task and turn any anti virus off wile burning
i do have other programs running while i burn. I will shut them down and burn another, see if that makes a difference. I will also try to burn at a 6x speed. If that dosnt work, i'll take the laptop in to get checked out. I just bought it and do not want to be stuck with a defective dvd drive. I'll let u know how it works out. thank you for all your suggestions
