Recently I was reading the guide on how to shrink DVDs using DVD Shrink and it says that if the bar that says the size of the DVD is totally green, then it will fit onto one DVD-R, but it definately doesn't. Any suggestions? they are greatly appreciated.

In Preferences set a Custom size of 4400MB. DVD Shrink defaults to 4468MB (if my memory serves me well). Or switch from Automatic to Ratio and bring the size down on your own. Some media has trouble handling data on the edges.

Sounds like you are using an older version of Shrink. Download the new version (3.1.3) from this site - you will not see red anymore!!
