I have the ds fire card and have mario kart ds on it but i want to use a someone else save,i have one save in .sav format but when i replace my current one with the other persons one, and start up the game it just starts a new save instead of loading the save that of the other person.
is your friends save file is from DS Fire Card ?
if not then you need to convert the save file then copy it onto your DS Fire Card.

as far as i know, firecard/F-card/N-card/MK5/DSlinker are all the same card.

i think you should make the firecard guide since you are better and more thorough of explaining things than me ;)

.i dont think i can help with this one.
maybe it has something to do with the 'save type'.
I try not to mess with save types, but you'll notice that when you highlight mariokart in the firecard menu, the save type will be displayed on the top screen of the DS.

you may already know that this can be changed by holding down the 'Select'-button and pressing left or right on the D-pad.
i'm not an expert on this, & i dont think it will help you, but maybe it was saved by the other person with a different save type & that may be causeing the incompatibility problem.

or maybe it was saved on a firecard with a different earlier version of the software.
...this will probabaly be of no help to you either.

maybe the other save file is corrupt in some way, and that is why the firecard is refusing to recognise it.

having said that...probabaly the only comforting words i can give is to remind you that mariokart is an easy game to unlock all the extra tracks and characters.
although it may take some time.
