What do you guys recommend as the best dvd player software for windows xp? i have tried powerdvd 5 and 7, and i don't really like either. VLC is too limited for me. Any suggestions?

Not that vlc isn't a good media player, it is. But i want a dvd software that has an easier gui. Any suggestions? I do use vlc for everything right now, by the way.

Zoom player works pretty well.

I still prefer VLC to be honest.

I'm using PowerDVD 8 now..... have always loved that player. I guess old habits are hard to break! LOL maybe I should try this Zoom player? I think I will... just for Sh¦¦ts and Giggles.

I just finished evaluating zoom player...... it's a really nice player! I highly recommend it! but, I am set in my ways and I find that this player has all the bells and whistles that I am used to in RealPlayer 11 and PowerDVD8 and I am more used to those programs than this one so I have uninstalled zoom player. I find that using programs that you're used to and does the same thing as other new programs just saves space and learning curve time. Now if you were comparing programs like Photoshop Elements to Photoshop CS3....... no comparison.... take CS3 as it has more control over everything compared to Elements! but since RealPlayer and PowerDVD does the same as Zoom Player..... I'll take the familiar programs over the one I have to learn to control. IMHO

I got sick of PowerDVD / WinDVD loooong ago (long-term favourite programs of mine), i now swear by Media Player Classic (which i keep updated via frequent updates of the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack), though most of my movie watching is done via my old xboxes ie thru XBMC (Xbox Media Centre) accessing AVI/DVD files across the network

seeeeeee I didn't know that about Shrink, either! but like you ....... I use DVDRebuilder Pro/CCE to do my compression when I need it! the only thing that differs is the quality when I use it! If the DVD is below 80% quality I will use Rebuilder! You do that if it's below 90%. I can't see the difference at 80%..... you must have a super duper tv to see the diff!

well i used to use Shrink by default unless a movie was below 90%, these days i don't even check the percentage, once i rip a disc, if there's more Gigabytes than will fit on a single layer i just throw it straight into Rebuilder (which more often than not is the case these days, for me anyways). I tend to use HC encoder mostly btw, even for full disc encodes ie concerts, episodics etc, HC 0.23 (and 0.22 before it) is mighty fine, multi-core aware and time-wise is as quick as CCE. Quality wise i haven't seen a noticable difference between CCE/HC, in the last few times i've taken the time to compare them.
